HISTORY OF THE DANDY

I seem to remember that excellent volume the history of the Beano came out this time last year. There was talk there would be a similar book like it on the Dandy. Does anyone know if it's going to be published?

It was cancelled I'm afraid, it should've come out a year before the Beano version. :(

There was a thread on this in the Dandy section. I think the 'Xtreme' revamp probably did for any History of the Dandy volume. It's a shame, because the History of the Beano provides a comprehensive index of Beano strips and artists, which doesn't exist for any other British humour comic, as far as I know. (There is of course The Dandy Monster Index, but I think it only contains the records, not comic strips etc).

And here was me crossing my fingers for 'History of TOPPER/BEEZER' variations, on the same lavish scale!

Ray Moore - Kashgar - has done several volumes, such as The Beano Diaries, The Dandy Monster Index, and Topper Tales. Material from The Beano Diaries was used for The Beano Index in The History of The Beano, updated of course. So they do exist for other comics, but the ones for Beano (even the History version, although only by 16 months), Dandy and Buster are now out of date.

I would love History of TOPPER/BEEZER, especially since the artwork was produced large-scale, and lends itself well to high-quality reproduction.

Sadly, I accept my view is in a minority, and this personal dream will never see the light of day; a real shame, considering the conglomerate pap which pollutes the reference sections in many bookshops today.

I have compiled my own "History of Sparky Comic" on Word! The Comics UK site is running it is sections! The first bit- `1965-1966` is on their web site now! Its not as comprehensive as I would like (1966 and 1967 are tough years to catalogue) But I hope it will be of interest to some!
