DCThomson's Judy Comic late 1970s/early 1980s

I've been asked to compile a list of all the strips I've drawn.
I started drawing comics in the latter half of the 1970s through Bardon Press Features, and drew a lot of stuff for the boys' title Hotspur and several of their girls' titles including (mostly) Judy I believe. I only have a few issues that feature a strip I drew entitled Mary Doone's Diary, about a girl being zapped back in time to the Victorian period as a maid-of-all-work drudge.
But I did several other fairly long-running serials whose titles I've forgotten.
One was about a girl winning a scholarship to a special boarding school for bright girls whose pupils, it transpires, are being used for experoiments by a mad scientist.
Another was about a pair of twins, separated when very young; they meet up when in their early teens but one of them turns out to be an evil scheming bitch.
Another featured a dark-haired Irish girl whose [parents had told her legends about a swan-child. I seem to remember that it was set in France in WWII
I feel sure there were others but I'd need to browse copies of Judy to locate them
Anyone out there can help, please?
I can post scans of photocopies from the original artworks in some cases if anyone is interested

Good to hear from you Ron. I can't help on the Judy material but you drew the Hog of the Baskervilles strip that I wrote for Oink! back in the 1980s and you made a fantastic job of it. Full colour too. Considering it was set in Victorian/Edwardian times and required reference AND making the pig characters look convincing it couldn't have been easy so thanks for doing such a great job.

Ron, anything from the Hotspur would be nice. I can trawl through my collection and see if I can get you more info on the boy paper side of things, but I feel that Kashgar may beat me to it with ease.

Wow! That was quick! I thought my enquiry might be to obscure to interest anyone.
I only have a few photocopies of original artwork pages - the art had to be drawn twice-up (ie four times the area of the printed page) so getting photocopies was expensive as each sheet required two A3 sheets of copying paper. I drew on A2-size sheets of illustration board or Bristol board.
So here are four scans from 30-year-old photocopies.
The first is from the boarding school story I mentioned
The second is the "Twins" story
The third is the one about the Irish girl in WW!! France. I see from the pencilled note at the top that it was entitled .....(something) Swan Child
And the fourth is from another which I don't recollect much about, but I may only have done two or three episodes of. The page proportions are slightly different, so may be from another title.
I know that I did others, but just can't recall anything about them

I've just seen that the pictures I scanned in aren't showing up. Obviously something I'm not doing right. It looked as though it was scanning in OK but..... well, as you see.....

I assume you was trying to attach them to the post.

Under the Preview, Submit, Save and Cancel buttons is a box labelled Upload attachment. Click on Browse..., find the file on your computer, and click Open on the dialog box. Then click Add the file.

To be honest Ron, I can't think of any good reason why you shouldn't have your own thread in the 'Writers & Artists' section. Are you interested in IPC strips as well, or do you already know which episodes of 'HMS Nightshade', 'Timequake', 'Ro-Busters', 'Wolfie Smith' etc. you worked on?

Such a good idea, I have now moved the thread... Ron's 2000AD credits are in issues 66, 95 and 42, so that narrows it down a bit. After a bit of Google last night, I found your book and your publisher's less than happy face that it has been put onto the net. I think I know what your style looks like, so I will do a bit of digging and see what I can find...

OK....... I'll try uploading the pages again. These are, as I said, from Judy Comic - late 1970s I think.
The first is a story about twins - one of them evil and the other not
The second is about an Irish girl in WW2 France, involving legends about swans
The third is a story that I believe I only did about three or four episodes, but can't remember the plot - this may not be Judy, tho'. Perhaps Suzy comic??
The fourth is a boarding school story where some weird experiments are being secretly carried out on pupils' brains by a mad scientist

Didn't you hang onto copies of your work as it was published, Ron? You seem to be missing 'holes' in your own printed output: forgive me if I'm wrong.

Well, here's what I believe to be the title panel for a science-fiction story; it ran to several episodes, I think. But can't remember the name. I did quite a few short stories too, but can't recall the titles. Other series I did were "Black Jack the Footpad" and "The Red Sands of Roga"
I drew the last few episodes of a "Spring-Heeled Jack" story, taking over the art chores from Dave Gibbons. Come to think of it, one of my first-ever paid jobs was inking Dave Gibbons's pencil layouts for a Spring-Heeled Jack story in a Hotspur annual. I never saw that in print but I believe I still have one or two photocopied artwork pages.

My mate has just given me about 100 issues of Hotspur (his doubles) I have had a quick look and found three Spring Heeled Jackson stories, the first is obviously Gibbons art, the next i'm not so sure about so have printed it here, were you asked to work in Gibbon's style to make the transition more smooth? The third story (second here) must be Ron Tiner. They are from Hotspurs 947 dated 10/12/77 and 955 dated 4/2/78 respectively.
