I really hope the new Dandy and its website will integrate the two, and take the opportunity to make material available online. With decades of archive material, you could inspire a keen reader with something in the comic then get them reading acres of stuff online. And you could use online goodies to keep reminding readers how important it is to buy the printed comic for exciting new stuff you can't get elsewhere.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that DCT have pulled something out of that hat here to make the best use of their resources and the skilled creators they have on tap.

Tomorrow I'll be teaching comic art to another batch of 8 year olds who read the Beano but have never heard of The Dandy, and who would devour it if it were full of good reading material they could afford.

Digi - http://www.dandy.co.uk brings up a kind of holding page that says:

Coming soon....2

whereas the usual http://www.dandy.com takes you to the normal Dandy Xtreme website...

At least it does on my PC :?

Spencer is correct. You're looking at the dot COM site Digi.

Although it could just be that some fan has registered dandy.co.uk I suppose.

Dandy Xtreme is regularly advertised in The Beano. Don't they read the house ads? I dunno, kids today eh? And to think that our generation pay a week's wage for an old comic flyer advert.

Oh God, is Blinky still in the Dandy? Does anyone actually find that funny?
Is it weird to have no interest in keeping or collecting free gifts?

Yes, I love Nick Brennan's version. Brilliantly surreal.

Blinky was actually axed when the comic went Xtreme, but they later brought him back.

dandy.co.uk now redirects to dandy.com. They must've been testing something.

The advert in this week's Beano for the latest Dandy Xtreme says it is "on sale from 6th Oct to 26th Oct" although the picture of the cover in the advert states the usual 2 week 'on sale' dates of 6th-19th Oct.

If it IS going to be on sale for 3 weeks then hopefully there will be some sort of info of the relaunch on the Next Issue page?

Guess we'll find out in tomorrow's issue...

There is. But it's not what you could call 'info'

Edited because I got annoyed with the previous post's outright negativity. Sorry - as you were!

Tomorrow? Wait a sec, when did Dandy Xtreme switch from every second Thursday to every second Wednesday?

On the way to the station this morning I saw some comic pages scattered over the street. Then saw two copies of the new Dandy Extreme lying together with the free gifts ripped off. I took them to the nearby newsagent who said she had been expecting them - no idea if the people responsible had taken them from the shelf or maybe a bundle on the doorstep. Strange, though, that it had to be Dandy Extreme. Looking inside I hope it does change because that new style artwork that looks like it was done with a T-square and set square appeals to me not at all. Watkins must be spinning in his grave.

I will now be told that the Dandy is aimed at kids and not 54 year old blokes - if that is the case why aren't the little bleeders buying it?

Digi - not sure when the publishing date changed but, both the last issue of Dandy Xtreme and the latest of Beano advertised the on-sale date as 6th October. I won't be able to get to the only place near me that stocks it until Thursday anyway though :(

Actually, I hope distribution of the 'new' Dandy is slightly better than the current format. There are two WHSmith shops in Liverpool Street station that never stock Dandy but both stock Beano. I have to go to the local Asda near home to buy The Dandy - I don't mind making the effort but not sure many parents would trawl the shops looking for a particular comic for their kids!
