A year or so ago, I bought both series of the 1970s TV version of `Billy Liar` starring Jeff Rawle as Billy. In one episode in series two (1974) `Billy` is reading a copy of `Sparky` at his desk! It is one of the late 1973 issues with the black, block lettered logo!

I'm not so sure - the pages aren't full colour and Clott was always in colour. I think it might be that black and white strip about a Lion. Can't remember the title.

Hmm..the picture isn't the sharpest, but it definitly seems to read "Clott" or something very like it...although the word before it doesn't look like Corporal. I'm not at all sure now lol

It is Corporal Clott- the Steve Bright single page black and white version from er, 1987. Bully Beef on the facing page.

There was Richard the Lion, but that was in the Beano in the 70s.

The Dandy did have a strip about a lion at one point called 'King Dom' but I'm not sure when he debuted and when he finished. He's never had a strip in an annual so he was probably quite short lived, and the strip of him that I've seen was from around 1992 or 93.

Why are you still talking about lions? It's Corporal Clott from November 21st 1987 (filmed dangerously close to transmission date!) drawn by Davey Law admirer Steve Bright with a cameo from another old Dandy star. Hope Rodney enjoyed it.

Wow...how on earth did you identify the actual story? there's so little detail in the pictures on the copy i've got. I am once again in awe of the depth of people's knowledge on here

dishes, even though Steve was wrong about it being a strip about a lion, I'm sure it'll be bugging him what the strip he was thinking of could be! That's why I mentioned Richard the Lion.

And lol at Clott ending up chased by Andrew Glenn and Black Bob!
