PS Talking of female bigwiggery I once stood beside Margaret Thatcher but was too nervous to speak to her. I couldn't think how to address her. "Excuse me your flagship can i fetch you a Hores De Ovary?" (I once asked my wife what a hores de ouvary was and she quickly corrected my pronounciation to "Aw Derve").

One of the two celebrity-devoted pages (which was a two page story last week) has vanished this week, replaced by a second Madvert. Well, it's a start...

EDIT: I suppose since that Madvert had a depiction of a depiction of Liz on it it might just be the obligatory tie-in to the big picture on the cover. Even so, it's better than "Simon Cowell auditions for X Factor as Michael Jackson!".

That's what I thought but if it is it's an appalling attempt at drawing him. The hair's wrong and he looks really fat. That's the problem with Harry Hill, I don't know who half the celebrities are!

The hair is not wrong, he looks fat because he's fat. He's not Olly Murs. There's more than one person in the world called Olly. Just as there's more than one person in the world called Harry.

The 'problem' with the Harry Hill strip is your problem- I've managed to work out that you apparently don't like it. Solution; don't put yourself through the misery of it, don't read it. There's plenty of other stuff in The Dandy.

Well, actually, Nigel, there are quite a few of us that feel this way. We don't know who these 'celebs' are, and quite frankly, we're not interested.
I don't read Harry Hill, but seeing as I'm spending £1.50 on the comic, it would be nice to feel all of it is worth reading.

The hair is not wrong, he looks fat because he's fat. He's not Olly Murs. There's more than one person in the world called Olly. Just as there's more than one person in the world called Harry.

I was judging blind having not seen the strip in question (the shop I bought The Beano from yesterday didn't have The Dandy, will get it somewhere else today), and just thought "now, who called Olly is in the news right now?" Murs was the first thing that came to mind, but was nothing more than an uneducated guess.

So put us out of our misery then, who was it meant to be? Or was it just a generic character?

I can't work out where the figure of 9 pages came from - even being really mean with my classification, I can't quite manage it.

The four most obvious candidates are Harry Hill's two pages, the page which was half Mr. T and half Daybreak, and the Jedward feature on the back. Then there's the cover, or a couple of bits of it at any rate. Then I suppose you might just call the Bogies the sixth, since it featured "Justin Sneezer". There's a picture of Louis Walsh on the contents page, although it's only half of it. And the eighth... um... the second Madvertisement for "Buck Palace B&B"? But I can't manage nine - the only remaining possibility is the second quarter of page 9.

This is my point, I don't get the jokes because I don't know who the celebrities are! Maybe Harry Hill should say! Half the time I'm like, "I'm guessing that was a joke, but what did it mean?!"

The problem is, I don't like celebrities having their own stories in comics like the Dandy or Beano. To be fair I find your artwork brilliant but I really don't like how it has to be Harry Hill, some stories are fairly funny but really they only need to be a page, the rest of it is just different jokes which I frankly do not understand. I read it because every once in a blue moon there'd be a strip I'd find funny and sometimes I've actually laughed at them (I like the ones mostly where there's hardly any celebs and the story builds up throughout instead of lots of jokes put together.), my favourites being the rain one where Jedward stay the night, The Daftas and when Harry Hill discovers an island with TV Burp worshippers.

Also the reason why I thought it may have been Olly Murrs was because that is the only Olly celebrity I know, I am aware that there are more Olly's in the world but this one is the only one I know who's a celebrity so of course I assumed it may have been him.

Okay, I'll try and explain how I see it. I'm aware I'm wrong as mini strips only count a a quarter. So ignore me, 8 1/4 pages instead.

But...that's why NP explained earlier that he writes the strips (mostly!) on two levels. You don't have to know the Olly in question to 'get' the joke that he's an unctuous, ingratiating pseud who, in the strip, has a restaurant full of slebs. The jokes flow naturally from that scenario...

The Harry Hill strip is genuinely groanworthy (in a good way). My kids 'get' it. For me, it could be a soupçon more vicious...
