The best artists we never had
Re: The best artists we never had
Sorry, but he's already drawn Little Plum, between 2002 and 2007. I didnt find that version of the strip that funny anyway.
Re: The best artists we never had
If you had been following up appropriately on tictak's post, you would have said Little Plum by Hunt Emerson would be even better. The fact that you didn't means that you were giving an opinion about strips you had already seen, which undermines and distorts the entire thrust of this thread.skyromie wrote:Little Plum by Hunt Emerson is even better.

I've only seen him do one, and I want him to do more. What's wrong with that, Teach?Jonny Whizz wrote:Which artists would you have liked to have seen draw a particular strip, who never (or very rarely) did that strip in real life?
The weather is windy.
Re: The best artists we never had
Skyromie is actually correct, because Hunt has drawn Plum, and I suspect Nigel has drawn him in cameos etc.
Can we stop the grammatical nitpicking, because it is not helpful to the flow of discussion. Substance, not style.

He drew him for five years, i have to tell you. Not one of my favourites.skyromie wrote:Phoenix wrote:If you had been following up appropriately on tictak's post, you would have said Little Plum by Hunt Emerson would be even better. How is he correct? The thread is about artists who could have done a good job on strips, but never got the chance! Can you not see that?AndyB wrote:Skyromie is actually correct, because Hunt has drawn Plum, and I suspect Nigel has drawn him in cameos etc.

This reply has nothing to do with substance or style, but about respect. By choosing to address me as Teach rather than by my username, you insult me, and by so doing, you are diminished in everyone's eyes.skyromie wrote:What's wrong with that, Teach?
Re: The best artists we never had
He was talking to Johnny Whizz, not you. I'm sorry if i insulted you but he was actually quoting Jonny there. AndyB and Skyromie should both hang their heads in shame.Phoenix wrote:This reply has nothing to do with substance or style, but about respect. Re: The best artists we never had
Believe me, skyromie was addressing Phoenix as Teach, quoting Jonny in support of his argument. It isn't acceptable behaviour under any circumstance, but it stands because of the substantive point he made that it is correct to say that in his opinion, Hunt's Plum is better than Nigel's would be (or already is) - we could delete the post under the rules, but it isn't worth deleting without deleting several others at the same time.
Hunt drawing Little Plum is technically off-topic as he's already done it for quite some time. It isn't so far off-topic as to be worth doing anything about.
Now can we get back to discussing who would be a good untested artist for what characters and strips? If someone posts a personal attack on you or goes off-topic, please use the ! Button to report it and stop responding in the thread.

Re: The best artists we never had
Maybe so, but he thought Hunt was a one-off artist for Little Plum. The rules would be twisted in his little world, but arguably it doesent stand in this world. Re: The best artists we never had
Back on topic, how about a Nigel Parkinson Bash Street Kids? Apparently he was the artist between 1999 and 2000 but i'm talking about the future. Or Jimmy Hansen would be good, if you come to think of it.
Re: The best artists we never had
He's still drawing the kids in beano max, although it's been all-stars strips in recent months. I'd say he'll be offered the kids when Dave Sutherland finally retires, but Dave looks like going past the age Reg Parlett was when he retired.
Re: The best artists we never had
I would imagine it being between him and Tom Paterson. I think the former will get it, though.

Re: The best artists we never had
I agree with Andy, I can see Nigel taking over the Bash Street Kids when David retires. Hopefully not for a while yet though, I think his work is still great. I'm not so sure as to who would take over Fred's Bed, though I wouldn't be too surprised if Tom Paterson returned.
I can imagine something similar happening to Minnie when Ken Harrison hangs up his brush, as I think Laura is currently in prime position to take over given that she's the regular ghost artist. This is pure speculation on my part, but for both the BSK and Minnie there seems to be a possible successor lined up. I don't think that's the case for Dennis at the moment, as Barrie Appleby is drawing it every week, and Roger's artistic future seems open due to the strip currently being reprints.

Ah, Byrne's style's a bit too bland to be a great 2000AD artist. Martin Asbury on 2000AD - that would have been good. Or Gordon Livingstone.
I would have loved to have seen Massimo Belardinelli draw Nemesis the Warlock.
