It was interesting to see the ABC figures.

Even in the last couple of years it had circulation figures that any comic today would be more than happy with.

Incidentally, how can comics survive on such low print runs now? The cost of distribution and display is higher, so have print costs dropped substantially?

I think plate making is done digitally instead of optically (I visited the Jarrold print museum last year, and it was a costly and time consuming business once, especially with regard to colour separation) - now plates are made quicker, cheaper, and are as cost effective for shorter runs.

I remember missing the last issue of TV Comic and so wrote to the editor offering to pay for a copy, he sent me a copy of the last issue for free and enclosed a letter saying how angry he was that the comic had been discontinued. I still have the letter but it is in storage. During the seventies when i was a teenager i regularly sent my own strips to DC Thomson and Fleetway and had a few meetings with Thomson editors. i had one script used in Cracker comic - Hector The Collector - which was nice!
