Latest Circulation Figures June11 to Dec11
Re: Latest Circulation Figures June11 to Dec11
The Dandy is listing as 'no longer registered' on the ABC site, which is odd.

Presumably they don't want the latest Dandy circulation figures to become public knowledge, which implies an embarrassing drop, though we can only speculate. Beano and BeanoMax remain registered.-MikeD- wrote:The Dandy is listing as 'no longer registered' on the ABC site, which is odd.

I believe it's voluntary to be listed. Most British comics are not registered now. (Commando, 2000AD, the six Panini UK Marvel comics, Titan's Batman comic etc).Raven wrote:Presumably they don't want the latest Dandy circulation figures to become public knowledge, which implies an embarrassing drop, though we can only speculate. Thanks for that clarification Lew. I don't know enough about how the circulation figures are compiled to give a sensibubble answer.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Commando and 2000AD haven't been for years, though, have they? (If ever?) Dandy was registered for the last time figures were made public, and now they've unregistered, hence they no longer want the figures made public. Which doesn't imply that they've gone up or stayed the same, does it?
Unless they unregistered ages ago. I only noticed last week, but hadn't previously looked for quite a while.
I can understand publishers only wanting their figures made public if their magazines are doing well. But they're always interesting to read.
Re: Latest Circulation Figures June11 to Dec11
That's true unfortunately. The Dandy is very likely to now be a loss leader, like the Times newspaper (which makes a loss but is sustained by The Sun). It's being kept alive in hopes of getting publicity from the forthcoming 75th anniversary. If that doesn't increase awareness of it's continued existence (that's a big problem, a lot of people think it ceased publication years ago), and thus sales, then I'm sorry to say the end is near.

But we've already had posts on this site from people in the know (perhaps DC Thomson employees themselves) saying the Dandy will not cease publication.
Re: Latest Circulation Figures June11 to Dec11
Note what I just said. The anniversary is in December. Any gains due to it won't be known for months afterwards. It's safe until next summer at least. And don't forget, Classics from the Comics and the Fun-Sizes ended so suddenly that they advertised future issues that were never published. Circumstances can change at very little notice.

Has it's own thread in the Dandy subforum. The Guardian reported that it was closing, the BBC article is shorter and just says it's under review.

Latest sales figures are out at noon.
