Re: What comics did you buy today?
That Dandy Book looks like new! Hang on to that one, it can only appreciate!
Anyway, today I got the Beano Summer Special Special no's 2 and 3. They are both still out there! Give the "bookazine", "mook" or "magazine specials" section a try if you can't find them, it's where they are in Cambridge.
I also got the latest 4 Commando's and the latest Classics Illustrated. The next issue is The 39 Steps, gonna be great!
Also I got "Blackie's Boys' Annual" from some time in the 30's (the same shop had one from 1930, but I was a bit weighed down), it's in fantastic condition and only cost 3.99!

It really is brand new it even has the new book feel to it I think it's from these that where being sold by Phil Shrimpton at £115 a pop I didn't pay that though as it was £40 cheaper so it's a bit of a bargain if it's from the "cream of the crop"felneymike wrote:That Dandy Book looks like new! If I'd known I'd've looked in Yeovil/Bristol/Newport/somewhere yesterday, but never mind - I'm on the boat to Rosslare now! If someone would be prepared to buy and post me a copy, could they PM me and we can make arrangements including payment?
Yesterday I did buy the new Phoenix in Waitrose, Crewkerne.

I assume you're referring to the Dandy special?

Korky was on the cover for over 40 years.

Picked up an original Keyhole Kate strip by Allan Morley from Phil Clarke. £80 and its no 74 from 1939. Not signed by AM though - that came a few years later I think.

1947 was the year and the month was January Allan Morley started to sign his work... Nice find too!stevezodiac wrote:Picked up an original Keyhole Kate strip by Allan Morley from Phil Clarke. £80 and its no 74 from 1939. Not signed by AM though - that came a few years later I think.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Went to the ephemera fair before the comic fair yesterday and picked up about 8 Magnets and 10 Marvels and 3 Wizards all for a quid each. Also got 15 copies of Illustrated Chips from Ken Graham for £3 apiece (minus discount). And two very nice Punch specials from the 1950s (one for the 1953 Coronation) with great full colour covers. There was a French copy of a Phantom comic that might interest someone here. My mate Steve also gave me a bundle of Radio Funs and Girl's Crystals that were doubles he'd acquired plus he had got me issues 110 and 111 of Alter Ego from 30th Century Comics.

I just bought the final issue of Tammy. I'm so pleased. I've already arranged to get the first one. After that I'll just need the ones in between.
Quite absurdly good value too. Less than cover price.

Just got the 1980 Misty annual & a 1972 Beezer annual for 50p each at a car boot sale. Both good condition.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Want to Morecambe yesterday (never been needed sea air) - got an excellent condition 1962 Schoolfriend annual from a charity shop - another charity shop had a 1979 Tammy annual in it - didn't buy as Tammy's not my cup of tea.
Went to a secondhand bookshop - everything stacked randomly and dangerously with sealed off and condemned floors. Rude and unhelpful owner. When I told him what I look for he said he keeps nothing aside and a lady buys it all when she visits anyway. Judging by his body language he does for her as a bribe!

After some lengthy negotiation I just bought the first 135 issues of Jinty. That should keep me busy for a while.

According to Denis Gifford that just leaves another 258 to go!Marionette wrote:After some lengthy negotiation I just bought the first 135 issues of Jinty. That should keep me busy for a while.
(To be honest I hadn't realized how successful Jinty was: seven and a half years was a pretty impressive run for any title launched in the 1970s!)
