My brother finally remembered to collect them today. Didn't cost me anything. 1979 through to 1992 Beano annuals (except 1986) and 1984 Dandy annual. Didn't have 1979 and 1980 at all, and the rest are in better condition than the second hand copies I already had (my existing copy of 1992 was so badly damaged that the cover had come loose). 1979 is the only one with any spine damage. A good haul.Digifiend wrote:Getting a bunch of old Beano annuals tomorrow, which are apparently 70s and 80s era. My brother's ex-girlfriend moved house, and it seems the previous occupants left them in the loft.

12 annuals for a fiver. Mostly Sparky (various from '69 to '81 IIRC), with a Topper, Beezer and two Dandys ('75 and '81).
Missed Forbidden Planet and nothing out this week from Marvel UK/DC UK that was of interest.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Went to the ephemera fair yesterday and picked up several copies of the Ranger including no. 1 plus some Princess Tinas, a run of about twelve Hotspurs from 1949 plus the Lois lane 80 page Giant no 1. And a few other odds and ends. Didn't buy anything at the comic fair except a Here's Lucy season 1 box set.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Also went to the Ephemera Fair and bought a free gift "Men of Danger" from Buster 1961. Then went to the Comic Mart and found Eagle no. 2 and bought three gorgeous paintings from Henry Davies of Minnie the Minx, Plug, and Calamity James. Nigel Parkinson also drew Dennis for me - excellent day!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
babington were you the bloke I passed the box of comics to? I know there was one punter patiently waiting for me and Steve 2 to finish rummaging through three boxes of comics. Yes he had a small box of vintage free gift booklets as well.

The Dandy. Searched high and low yesterday and today through most of Hull to no avail, then finally got a copy thanks to a tip-off from Bone-O artist Mike D (see The Final Dandy thread).

Ordered from Amazon the art & history of the dandy book which will prob be the last dandy product i buy if dct decide to stop the dandy annuals like they did with dennis & bash st kids ones.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
The annuals are continuing, and judging by the online offering, I'm guessing it'll be mostly retro from now on, just like the last two were. The Beezer annual lasted 10 more years after that comic folded - so I don't believe the Dandy Annual to be in any danger.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I couldnt find a copy of the last dandy ordered one off DC Thomson's web site though. But I did out of attempting to ease my disappointment go to the local Oxfam book shop and inside was quite a good lot of annuals and comics. I left with a copy of Whoopee (with one of Ken Reid's excellent World Wide Weirdies on the back), a topper annual, a Cor annual, an early viz annual and the viz bumper book of s***e. This was quite a good haul I must say.
Also on my travels through newsagents looking for Dandies I stumbled across some Dennis the Menace merchandise (which I didnt purchase). These were Dennis and Gnasher Mud Pies some sort of sweet I assume and they used the new Dennis look in the design. I didnt know they'd released any merchandise other than a DVD off the New Dennis TV series.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I bought a box of Tammys which may go a way to fill a big hole in my collection. More money than I am comfortable spending in one go, but compared to buying the issues individually it was a bargain.
Fingers crossed it may include the tenth birthday issue, which would make me happy. It certainly does include some of the "and Misty" issues, which always seem to go for silly money.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I'm a keen collector of Dennis The Menace merchandise so I was aware of these. They are indeed based on the TV series, with no mention of the Beano whatsoever. There are a few different types I know of. Mostly they're stocked in Poundland and similar shops although ASDA sell a variation on the above which are contained in a Christmas cracker-shaped cardboard box. A nice touch!Tin Can Tommy wrote:Also on my travels through newsagents looking for Dandies I stumbled across some Dennis the Menace merchandise (which I didnt purchase). Went to the Junk Shop in Greenwich and got 123 Wizard's, Rovers and Hotspurs from the 1950s - as a bonus two of the Rovers were from 1929. £60 the lot. Will do some trimming of the tatty edges and bag them all. Lots of Bill Ritchie art and the text Bash Street stories mentioned Danny as being called Death's Head Danny Morgan. Fatty was called Fatty Brown. The single illustration for each story looks like Baxendale.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Yeah, I'm aware of those Bash Street School stories, the Beano-Dandy retro books and Classics from the Comics have each used them once or twice. Also refers to Sidney and Toots as Sidney and Kate Pye, and Smiffy as James Smith. And yes, the art is Baxendale's.
