Re: Princess Tina
Oh I wasn't suggesting Tom Kerr had anything to do with Sidobre's pages directly - I was just noting a similarity of style, more in the figure work but also in some of the male faces. I'm learning more about Sidobre's style and the differences now but if I had been shown some without knowing, I might have guessed Kerr in some instances...
Re: Princess Tina
Hi Jluc, answering your circulation question here as it is not about 'Jean Sidobre'. I myself do not own many foreign 'Tina' or ''Princess Tina' comics only from Britain and Germany. I will also need somebody to fill in some gaps with my answer as well!
'Tina' comic circulation countries in 1967 were some commonwealth countries from that time being: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Rhodesia, East Africa, West Africa, Canada, Malaysia, and Malta, these are on the front cover. Then as we already know it was printed in many other countries of which I do not have a list but we know of Germany, france, Hong kong, plus other european countries (help please).
Then on its front cover in 1967 'Princess Tina' had a circulation list of all the above countries mentioned plus Barbados, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Greece, Italy, Holland, Norway, Portugal, Finland, and Sweden. I also know it was sold in Turkey although that country is not on the cover.
Hope that helps, somebody else may be able add more to this.

Re: Princess Tina
Though it was produced by Fleetway/IPC themselves the 1993 Mum's Own Annual is notoriously unreliable, filled with page after page of misinformation and highly questionable opinion. Nevertheless, it does contain this interesting feature on Tina, which it describes as "the first truly international girls' comic in the world". According to the unnamed author the comic was sold throughout Europe in "Germany, France, Turkey and Scandinavian countries" - but by far the most successful edition appeared in the Netherlands where it became that country's best-selling comic within two years!

Re: Princess Tina
Hi Matrix.
Many countries, it's true.
In France it's hard to find the French versions. There were only 33 numbers/magazines.
I was wondering if there was information about jean Sidobre in the book "Mum's own"?
Perhaps I can answer your questions:
In French Tina magazines: I think the first magazine in England with drawings by Sidobre in Tina is also number 25.

One can see that your English page is the same with the page in France as well as covers.
I do not know if you understood

Re: Princess Tina
You're confusing French comic information books (which actually have useful, detailed information) with British comic information books, which are usually stocked in the humour section and are full of "Wow didn't people used to talk funny? And look, this story has 'tranny' in the title, and this one says 'dyke'! They wouldn't get away with that these days!!" (they don't "get away with" anything these days, because there's no girls comics to print "that" in). I doubt a single artist is even named in it.I was wondering if there was information about jean Sidobre in the book "Mum's own"?
Re: Princess Tina
Sorry, I missed that question Jluc. No, there isn't any mention of Jean Sidobre in the 'Mum's Own Annual' - nor in its companion volume the 'Dad's Own Annual'.

Hello to all.
Here is the first issue of My Chum Yum Yum designed by Jean Sidobre.
This is the Nederland version (Pays-Bas).
All stories in the magazine are (re)colored.

Re: Princess Tina
Somebody's got a budgie, eh? Tracey had a budgie too as her mascot. Several girls' comics had animal mascots. Bunty had the Scottie dog and later Bugsy the bug. Mandy had Patch the dog. Misty had a cat but it didn't appear much.
Re: Princess Tina
Misty's cat was Habibi and she had two bats called Pipistrelle and Radar!
Re: Princess Tina
For the record on here, Giorgio Trevisan's The Wizard of Oz' first episode began in both 'Princess' and 'Tina' comics before the merger.
I am adding a comment about the merger under Crocodile comics in general discussion.
His lovely artwork on scans below. I like the way the geese are taking flight!

That girl on the cover is a dead ringer for Mandy. Is this some relation? I also notice that this cover is dated 1967 - the year Mandy started.
Re: Princess Tina
For comparison purposes, Tammyfan, could you please post an image of Mandy, because basically apart from the black hair, I don't see any similarity at all.Tammyfan wrote:That girl on the cover is a dead ringer for Mandy.
I'm also curious about the character Yum-Yum. Is there any similarity between the Tina character and the identically-named girl in the 1963 Diana serial Yum-Yum In Search Of Her Sister, which was eventually to reappear in Mandy in 1980, and Diana's 1966 follow-up serial Yum-Yum - The Only Girl In School, given that Tina wasn't a DC Thomson girls' story paper?
