This week's issue Take 2

Discuss or comment on anything relating to D.C.Thomson's second longest running comic. The home of Dennis the Menace. Has been running since 1938.

If bananaman is new at least they have a decent artist doing the classic look this time i hated the dandy version the last few years.also it was good to see appleman again he was always a favourite of mine as a kid very underused the last decade or so.

Then you'd be surprised to know the new Beano Bananaman artist is the old Dandy Bananaman artist, Wayne Thompson!

(The scratch-'n'-sniff stickers were drawn by Barrie Appleby)

EDIT: And in case anyone seemed sceptical - Wayne just confirmed it to me through Facebook!)

Glad to see that the Dandy not only lives on in the internet but in the Beano too. :D
And I'm not just talking about Bananaman but the ex-Dandy artists who are now working for the Beano too.

Now if only Desperate Dan joined the party...

It's lovely to see so many Dandy artists in The Beano now: Wayne Thompson, Graham Howie, Jamie Smart, Nigel Auchterlounie, Andy Fanton, Stu Munro, Wilbur Dawbarn, Alexander Matthews, Paul Palmer, Lew Stringer - I only hope we can see more Funsize Funnies pages so Andy Fanton and others like Stephen Waller, Stu Munro and Jamie Smart can draw some comic strips! :)

It's more a case of Wayne showing his versatility. He has been a hugely talented artist for years and is skilled enough to be able to modify his style substantially. That sort of Manga influenced abstract style he used on The Dandy wasn't any less accomplished than his other styles, just different.

Have a look at his online portfolio. I think you'll be impressed. I know I was:

Lew Stringer wrote:If it helps to fund the comic, yes. Although I don't know if I'd feel the same if it was Rasher that had been dropped for a week.

The reason it's a flip cover is because that back part of the issue is basically a mini-mag for Lego. Also, when some store assistants shove the comic in the shelves upside down (as they often do) it'll hopefully attract the attention of kids interested in Lego, - who will then hopefully also become interested in The Beano and start buying it regularly. Worth trying, yes?
Fair point if it helps sales of The Beano I'm all for it. :D

I was only joking as it seems to be a theme running in The Beano just lately.

So Bananaman is now off reprint with new strips by Wayne Thompson. I would have never guessed that was Wayne's work which shows just like Lew said what a versatile artist he really is. Also with Calamity James missing this week this is a rare non reprint issue.

Looks like Minnie the Minx has a touch of time-wimey this time with an earlier incarnation of her existing as her gran. Right down to her having the same hair-style and wearing the same jersey under her cardigan. Hmmmm. :?:

I refer the gentleman above to the earlier post I made, which Gilly quoted.

All those times Minnie dressed up as an old lady....? Maybe it was just so convincing after all because of her nan.

There is also a long and honourable history of characters' grandparents being like the kids - consider Grandpa Whizz.

No way! Really? They're using the extra 16 pages to give us more comic strip content? Woo-hoo! :D
