I don't have any Lindys but I do have a number of Jinty & Lindys, and it's worth remembering that the Lindy logo remained quite prominent there for much longer than the original title lasted. Here, for example, is the issue for 26th February 1977 - months after the 1977 Annual would have gone on sale.

I don't have that particular issue, but I do have the next one, so I surmise that the "exciting news" was referring to the 4 week astrological poster they were giving away.
Funnily enough, in that next issue too (5 March 1977), the Lindy logo on the cover shrunk considerably, before disappearing less than two months later.

Regarding the profile of Lindy comic for the annual, Lindy itself went for 20 weeks from 21 June 1975 until the merger with Jinty on 11 November 1975, and the Lindy logo remained on the cover of "Jinty and Lindy" until April/May 1977 (I don't have all the issues around that time, so don't know exactly when it disappeared). That's a period of about 22 months that the Lindy name was in circulation, and certainly during the time the annual would have been issued.

Going through my Whizzer and Chips I came across some adverts for Lindy which I must admit i'd forgotten existed. I see it only ran for 20 issues but i've never owned a copy. Were there any stand-out strips in it?

I do have a couple of issues of Lindy. Stories which could be stand-outs included Nina Nimble Fingers, which was reprinted in one of the Jinty holiday specials, and Hettie High and Mighty!, the only Lindy story to be completed in the merger. A Lindy reader might point out more standouts. The only other Lindy feature to continue in the merger was a cartoon called Penny Crayon. It's possible that Slaves of the Candle and Bound for Botany Bay in Jinty & Lindy were originally written for Lindy because they were drawn by a Lindy artist.

Lindy was one of those sadly short-lived titles that didn't make it beyond their first year before they merged into other titles and were soon forgotten. Others included Dreamer, Princess (not to be confused with Princess Tina) and the other title to merge with Jinty - Penny. It happened a lot with the funny comics as well, such as Jet, Nipper, School Fun and Oink!, all of which were swallowed by Buster.

A lot of IPC titles had annuals up until 1986. Tammy, Jinty, and Misty all did, despite the last of those being cancelled in 1984. I've seen Sally annuals from the mid-seventies, even though it was cancelled in 71.

I have no idea why they all stopped in 1986, although they were getting a bit thin by then, and a lot of the material seems to be reprints (and not necessarily from the comic it is associated with).
