My series two DVD arrived on Monday and I'm already four episodes in. Hugh Paddick is hard to beat and was perfect in the Genie role, but I think Arthur White is very good too, and the series is still as good fun so far. It looks like Mr. Cobbledick might be driven fully insane this series. His striptease in episode four is certainly something to behold! I think I've laughed out loud the most at this episode.
Oh! Arthur White is fine! I suppose at the time-I found the change in Genie's a bit disconcerting! White goes for a more `full on` performance, if I can put it like that!
I love the "Chicken Feud" ep the best of S2 - but agree Raven that Cobbledicks `Striptease` is a great moment! For me, season 2 runs out of steam a bit in its later eps. The two eps featuring the character `Bertie Glossop` just meander- and I can't warm to them. Final episode is OK featuring the actual Thames TV studios and several `guest` stars!
Raven! I dug out my `Davey Jones` book! Its a US release only-perhaps thats why you are finding it difficult to track down. I got the `Oliver-Pickwick` chapters confused - sorry! Davy goes into some depth about his time on Oliver and less so on Pickwick.

I've watched the first Bertie Glossop episode of PMG now - and it's the only one I think I saw and remember from childhood; just that sequence with Mr. Cobbledick and Hal conveniently eating a big cream cake under that cafe umbrella. I'm surprised by some of the punch-ups and drunken antics in this children's series!
That episode just did not work for me at all! I'm afraid I thought that Arthur White lapsed too far `OTT` that episode!
The second season has many good moments - but nothing in my opinion that matches the `Coughing Fish` sequence in Season 1. I nearly had tears streaming down my face-I laughed so much at that!
I suddenly remembered watching Superthunderstingcar in the 1960s - a sketch by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore taking the mick out of Gerry Anderson's shows. You can see it on youtube. Just type superthunderstingcar into the search box and watch the top option. Not hilarious but worth seeing for curio value.
Looked for a topic to post this message and this was the first and almost the most apt. I saw a Panini magazine in Smiths last week titled something like "Doctor Who the Lost Episodes". Its a thick magazine featuring synopsis and stills from the wiped episodes which are featured in chronological order.

No doubt there will be more issues devoted to Troughton and Pertwee. I believe all the scripts still exist so no reason why they couldn't get someone to make CGI versions.

Just been reading this subject - most of what I watch now is retro stuff be it on digital channels - from very early Bullseye on Challenge, 1978 TOTP & That Petrol Emotion - Formula 1 at BBC on BBC4, or George & Mildred on ITV3.
That's not when I'm not watching DVDs of old stuff - over Easter weekend I watched the likes of Crown Court, The Avengers, Man In a Suitcase, Animal Kwackers, Dixon Of Dock Green amongst others - better than the dross on TV.
And I'm shocked to discover via this subject so much that I didn't know had got a DVD relase - like Look Back 3 & 4. (I've no computer of my own or credit card so it's not safe to buy yet).
Am going to make a list of what's not on DVD in the Uk as far as I know but should be.
In the latest Weekly News there is an article about Grouch Marx - his son was at his house when he got a phone call from the tv company asking if he wanted his old Bet Your Life recordings on film. Groucho said no but when they said they would be burned his son insisted his dad have them. A few day's later he got an alarmed phone call from Groucho saying there were three removal trucks full of hundreds of rolls of film of the shows. The point is I thought the USA were more respectful to their old show and the thought of them burning old 50s tv shows is appalling.
Anybody know if Mind Your Language has been released on DVD? I know some company used to advertise on the back of Viz, with releases of all sorts of obscure stuff (even the Andy Capp Tv series). I know a Malaysian who wants it.
No, really. Apparently it was still being repeated there up until 2009!
My mate Steve has the Mind Your Language dvds and I remember him saying that a certain season hadn't been released - I think some were made by Thames TV and some by London Weekend Television. I think the Thames one may still be awaiting a release. He likes the French actress who appeared in it.
Just been on Wiki and the fourth season was made by Granada and has never been released on dvd. Francoise Pascal was the French actress - well worth a look.
