D.C. Thomson: The curse of the REPRINT!
I try to adapt my style to each job as it comes along, but people always say they can recognise my work, even when I draw licensed characters.
I don't think there is anything I can do about it, and if there were I'm not sure I would want to change my style

Thanks Lew, it's always nice to know if a joke works or not!Lew Stringer wrote: Derek the Sheep last week had me laughing out loud when "Danger Cow" turned up.

STOP PRESS... Latest issue of The Dandy has nine... yes, NINE pages of reprinted material. Is this a record? What an absolute disgrace during the comic's 70th birthday year.

And what about the doomed and overpriced BeanoMax? Take away the reprints of Bob Nixon's comic pages, take away the advert pages, and what are you left with? ...sweet sod all!

I'm not sure but I think this week's Fred's Bed reprint was by David Parkins.SH wrote:freds bed ? dont remember that , is that Tom P if not its a durn good ghost.

Both episodes so far are by David Parkin. David ghosts Tom very well, but it's still unmistakeably David.
It's been pointed out to me that (a) 2/3 of the Weekly Beano is still new comic strip at about 19 pages (same as the late 1970s/early 1980s Beano), and (b) there're fewer ads than a couple of years ago. The features have taken up some of that space, but while I think we have lost some new comic strip material, it's been made up in lack of food ads.

Lack of advertising is a bad thing though, as it's not bringing in revenue.
In defense of the modern Dandy & Beano, even at 20 or so pages of new material per week it's still more than 40 years ago, when Dandy and Beano had only 16 pages each in their comics (and even then occasionally had a few pages of reprint).

would be nice to see them advertise on TV between kids hour shows. with a popular celeb promoting the comic ( not my idea someone else's)
teds bed would be a good one to continue with new material , always thought a bit of time travel works well with kids.

Or they could make a new TV show!
Freds bed would be good or Bash Street Kids, Roger the Dodgre based on the comic
Ollie Fliptrik, Desperate Dan, Korky for the Dandy.
