That Official Guide is going straight onto my Christmas list, as it comes out at the same time as the annuals. It's apparently not a replacement for Classic Beano and Dandy though - this one is published by Puffin, not DC Thomson themselves.

The official guide looks promising hopefully with rare stuff..also the postcards look good from the one example..
I would put them on the wall...mind you Carol might not want me to..;0)

I am also interested in the official guide. I wonder what it will cover though as the history of The Beano Characters has been done before.

I am aware it's not saying it's a book about the history of The Beano though. Sounds an interesting read.

It does seem to be aimed at the juvenile market though - the Beano's usual target audience - rather than the nostalgia market like The History of The Beano: The Story So Far. I think the aim of the book is to explore the history of the most famous characters, rather than the comic itself - I wouldn't be surprised if Big Eggo isn't mentioned beyond a showing of issue 1's cover. It'll have old strips in it, mostly from Beano, though Bananaman will probably have a few examples from Nutty and/or Dandy, and if the Numskulls feature, I would expect a Beezer example to be used - their history doesn't start in 1993 when they made their Beano debut, so I won't be pleased if they pretend it does.

Didn't they do a Where's Dennis? in the nineties or so and they reprinted in the Beano relatively recently? I think I own that book.
It was not an original idea but it was a decent book and I assume this new Where's Dennis will be similar albeit with newer artwork.

Good to know, I was basing what I said on the description at Amazon, which mentioned rarely-seen artwork.

Good to know - thought that opening spread in the Dandy Annual 2013 (as in, the one published in 2012) was the highlight of the book. He's a goody!

I wrote the Puffin Beano Guide so I'm chuffed that people seem to be looking forward to it. Be assured that Big Eggo turns up once or twice, as do a host of other Beano stars.
