What comics did you buy today?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
I bought the Whizzer and Chips Annual 1981 yesterday - only £2 for light pen marks over Chips on the front cover, no other damage. A snip!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Well these comics arrived today and they are in a right old state. But at least the seller didn't say that there were in good condition for their age!colcool007 wrote:Just finished the auction on this lot and I was the highest bidder. I look forward to getting them and seeing what stories I recognise from other D C Thomson publications. I will also enjoying looking at the spot illustrations and playing Spot The Artist.
I know they are not in the greatest of condition. However, I am looking for reading copies and getting these at less than 30p per issue, then I won't complain at that bargain.
They are all readable (so I am happy with that) and they jump across the last years of Rover and Wizard from 22 August 1964 until the last issue. Looking forward to seeing what stories I have read before.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Car boot sale today, got a couple of Hotspur annuals for £3 (he had lots more annuals and a few comics, so I'll go back again for some Warlords at least), another guy had a load of Commandos, so I got 10 for £5. I chose the weird ones, like Romans, time travellers etc. Shame they seem to have gone back to just the World Wars now. It vastly reduces the appeal for me. I also got a life size cut out of Dredd. I presume it was for Lawman of the Future as it has that Stallone look. Could have been for the movie I guess but it's still very much a comic form, rather than movie-esque. That cost a whole 20p!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Continuing my 'quest' this year to re-collect all the UK annuals I once owned in the 70s:
4 annuals bought in antique shop off Byres Road in Glasgow last weekend
Dandy Book 73
Topper Book 73
Topper Book 74
Sparky Book 75
All in great condition, £15 total and the owner agreed I was getting a bargain.
I remember saving up my pocket money for a couple of weeks to buy the 74 Topper (50p) from our local newsagent after I saw it's great cover displayed in the front window - I was 8 and it was probably the first thing I ever saved for!

Sparky Book 1972 off eBay - really nice condition for only £4
The stories and art are all quite brilliant with a special mention for the 'Years to remember' feature with numerous glorious double page spreads. I remember buying this at a jumble sale held in my primary school in (probably) 1974 and being really pleased with my purchase - well I've got that feeling once again!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Bought 2 Marvel UK annuals off eBay for only £6 combined
The Incredible Hulk 78
The Avengers 78
I don't recall ever having originally owned a copy of either book and in fact was completely unaware of the Hulk annual until I stumbled across this copy on eBay. Both really nice condition and although I've already got all the stories elsewhere in my US Marvels they are a welcome addition to my ever expanding collection of UK annuals from the 70s.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Collected a couple of e-bay purchases from the post office this morning;
Spider-Man Annual 1976
Spider-Man Annual 1977
All stories with art by the great Ross Andru. I've never owned either of these UK annuals before, although I remember my cousin spotting the 1977 annual in a jumble sale just before me. I was absolutely gutted, but he was good enough to lend it to me after he'd read it.

The entire run (2nd) of Vulcan. Cost me a couple of quid but was worth it to get all the 28 issues.
Reading comics since 1970. My Current Regulars are: 2000 AD (1977-), Judge Dredd Megazine (1990-), Spaceship Away (2003-), Commando (2013-), Deadpool and Wolverine (2023-), Quantum (2023-), Fantastic Four (2025-).

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Not a comic but last Saturday I picked up the last issue of The Daily Herald for a quid - the next day it was relaunched as The Sun. This was in 1964 and the Sun started life as a broadsheet newspaper. The Daily Herald has a full page ad for the Sun inside. Today I picked up another copy of the last Daily Herald but it was a bit different so obviously a different pressing. Ephemera fair in Bloomsbury tomorrow where I usually find some comics or vintage magazines.

Five issues of Spellbound, leaving me with only seven to go to complete the set. Whatever shall I do once that is achieved?
The Tammy Project: Documenting the classic British girls' comic, one serial at a time.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Write a detailed index of it along the lines of your Tammy Project, but including information about the whole content, not just synopses of the serials and completes, and set the paper in its context.Marionette wrote:Five issues of Spellbound, leaving me with only seven to go to complete the set.
