The specific format and setting of the Four Marys might have been too alien for American readers but I can't help wondering whether a monthly DC comic book starring Nancy Drew (for example) could have attracted a whole new audience who weren't being catered for during the 1950s and 1960s.

Way back in the early eighties, moore/Gibson created a fantastic concept with a female protagonist (Halo Jones). Very original and innovative and UK bred. If only they could have continued with the intended series. "Sigh!" If only moore could have persisted with Captain Britain. Damn, it's a love/hate thing!

Just heard this radio show about women in comic strips presented by Jenny Eclair : http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ft64f
It was first broadcast in 2008 but I did a quick search and found no previous mention of it on the forum. Paul Gravett and Leo Baxendale among the contributors.
Is it weird to have no interest in keeping or collecting free gifts?
