I can't imagine them doing anything about it, Alan, because their profit depends in part on advertisers getting as high a price as possible for their advertised item. The method the advertiser uses to achieve that end will surely be irrelevant to them.alanultron5 wrote:Can you not inform E.Bay dept that seller(s) are advertising with inaccurate statements?

i think english comics can in a way be described as rare as i think a lot of these got binned every week by parents more so than american comics which was a lot more desirable & color & more sturdy.

You've got some to sell thenbig bad bri wrote:i think english comics can in a way be described as rare as i think a lot of these got binned every week by parents more so than american comics which was a lot more desirable & color & more sturdy.
Forgive me for butting in --Blessed are they with nothing to say and cannot find another forum to say it -=and all that, but the point is there is no way of telling is there? For instance if I have only one copy of a comic I cannot be sure how many others exist. You are right in saying many comics get binned and I suppose only when there is great difficulty finding a comic do you have an indication of how rare it is.

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
We often hear that there are only so many copies of, say, Action Comics no.1 in existence but given that people saved first issues and perhaps the second and thrd, surely it is issue numbers like five, six and seven that are much rarer? We've all seen beano and Dandy number 1 but who has seen issues five, six and seven etc?

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
British comics are much harder to find in Australia than US comics, so I think of them as "rare", although they're not usually expensive. The exception seems to be the glossy boys' comic magazines Eagle, Swift, Boy's World and Ranger, and the educationals like Look and Learn. They're not that common, but there's a lot more of them for sale than Beano or Dandy. Possibly it's the better paper, and being saved in bulk because of the serials. Really, I've got far more Swift than I need!
Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
Strangely enough I have yet to come across any Swift, Robin comics at carboots or charity shops in the last 15 or so years and Girl comics sister of the Eagle I have only seen once for sale.suebutcher wrote:British comics are much harder to find in Australia than US comics, so I think of them as "rare", although they're not usually expensive. It took me a few moments to realise that 'wfg' meant 'with free gift'. I thought it was reflecting the expression of disbelief at his prices. 'What ******* greed'

A few weeks ago, a copy of the first Beano-Dandy summer special, went up for auction, and there wasn't any people around with deep pockets (it sold for £452. We have another optomistic seller hoping to make a mint. A starting price of £900 and a Buy It Now for £2,300.

Looking at his most recent feedback pages he has clearly made an incredible number of sales but most have been Best Offer Price Accepted. In all cases though his asking price was much, much lower than those on his current list of items for sale. However, when seen in the light of his very optimistic expectations where these other items are concerned, it is very disappointing to see that he is asking a mere £1,001,97 for a CD by Phoenix. Obviously not a discerning seller!Adam Eterno wrote:Just seen another optimistic seller who has had this loaded for months at £300+ but hasn't sold it and now wants over 4 x as much!

One of the new Lego mini-figures for the kids? A mere £1004.29.

Can't blame him for trying I suppose.
Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
Last week, when I was staying with Russell and family in Hayle in Cornwall I took my six-year-old grandson, Alex, to Truro for the day as a bit of a treat. Apart from going to the cinema together to see Minions, one of the things we did was to go to a shop with a decent toy and games section. He is Lego mad and I had told him before we set out that he could pick some Lego to the value of £30. We were there for quite a while as he investigated what was available and at what prices. Eventually he chose an up-to-date item on a dinosaur theme for £29.99, and the box it came in, if empty, would have had room for getting on for twenty of those plastic packets of mini-figures. I did see him picking up the odd plastic packet, only to put them down again as not worthy of his attention. He loves challenges, you see.Lew Stringer wrote:One of the new Lego mini-figures for the kids? A mere £1004.29.

I can't complain about what ebay no.1 pays for a comic. I've probably paid more; it's not comforting. As long as you're happy, go for it. I'm happy
Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
At the weekend carboot one lady had a table of items and a number of books laid out on the grass lawn at the side, plus some books in boxes. One large modern book was of minor interest about the history of american comics.
It contained mainly small photos of cover art. When I asked how much? she reacted as though I had picked out the jewel in the crown."On Ebay "she said "It is £20 I can't let it go for less than £10" .I placed it back on the lawn.I then noticed a box of Look and Learn annuals, I selected one and again asked how much?"£1 each" she replied"they are £6 on Ebay"Slightly irritated by being quoted Ebay at each inquiry I put it back and moved on.
Sometimes I am surprised at price quotes. At Sunday's carboot I saw a dishevelled TV TIMES from the fifties looking as though it had been dragged across a coal mine floor.I thought it could be fun to have just to look at the programmes of the time.
"It's old " this lady said"£4".
"Too steep for me" I replied.
"How much did you think then"she said.
"I was thinking in pence " I replied with a smile"it's scruffy".
We had a short chat and as I left she said" Don't forget if it's scruffy it could be valuable".
