Just remembered, Pink Floyd's "Astronomy Domine" mentions Dan Dare, and since 'Neptune, Triton, stars can frighten...' perhaps Syd Barrett had just read "The Moonsleepers" when he wrote it. Also '...Dr Strange is always changing size' in "Cymbaline".

Lieutenant Pigeon's follow up to their chart topper "Mould Old Dough" was an intrumental called "Desperate Dan". Made number 17 in early 1973.

Is an instrumental with a few growlings of the words "I'm a Desperate Dan".

Anthrax have a song called "I Am The Law" about Judge Dredd - there is also a Momus song of the same name, not sure if it is a cover.

Transvision Vamp did a rather nice song called "Hanging Out With Halo Jones".

I was looking for (I think) a Wire song with the song lyrics all based around EC titles like "Where Monsters Dwell" and came across a link with lots of other song references, including the mighty fine Suicide song called and about the Marvel character "Ghost Rider".

Transvision Vamp, that's a blast from the past and no mistake. I particularly liked their I Want Your Love. There were a number of contemporaries with memorable songs too, such as T'Pau, Pet Shop Boys, The Bangles, Vanessa Paradis, Tracy Chapman with Fast Car, Everything But The Girl with I Don't Want to, Belinda Carlisle with Heaven Is A Place On Earth, Pebbles with Girlfriend, Taylor Dayne with Prove Your Love, and Desireless with Voyage, Voyage. And who could forget Sabrina with Boys, and her constantly-escaping nipple?

Verse one is a list of early-seventies Marvel monster comics while verses two and three list the titles of various Fanttic Four stories.

Talking of Pet shop boys, they had the line "who do you think you are, Captain Britain?" in "Building a Wall". An in-joke because Neil Tennant used to work for Marvel UK.

Neil Tennant was Marvel UK's British editor when the first Captain Britain series was being published although, as far as I'm aware, the editorial work on the Captain Britain stories was all done in the USA, by Stan Lee's brother Larry Leiber.

Wedding Present have a song called Brassneck, from their 1989 "Bizarro" album (so there's two references right there!). They also have a song called Dan Dare.

Meanwhile, Pop Will Eat Itself have a song called Can U Dig It? which references the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Marvel, DC, Alan Moore, and V For Vendetta amongst many other things...
