Re: Treasure: Wee Willie Winkie visits Fleetway
Hi folks
Just received the last issue of the "Donald and Mickey and also Goofy" magazine with the complete Peter Pan serial
It runs from November 9, 1974 up till and including January 25, 1975.
And it was not easy to obtain all i2 issues.
I received 11 from Britain and 1 i had to order from Australia.
That last one was sure a wide travelling mag.
The serial is supposed to be that of "Peter Pan Treasure Chest".
And i am trying to post two covers: of November 9 and of December 14.
PS. No luck with the Australian Peter i guess, Sue?

It's interesting that the cover of that first issue of Donald & Mickey uses a somewhat simplified version of artwork Disney commissioned for the film's original posters and publicity. Here's a scan of the image as it appeared on the inside back cover of the British Boys' and Girls' Cinema Clubs Annual for 1953/4. I can't help feeling it would look fantastic if blown up and framed!
Re: Treasure: Wee Willie Winkie visits Fleetway
One of my favourite D&M covers of the time.
Johan, are you aware of Peter Pan's guest appearance in the instalment of Goofy in Fantasyland in issue 19 (2nd March 1974) of D&M's companion comic Goofy and Also Pluto?
It involves Goofy, Pluto and Jiminy Cricket touring Florida's Walt Disney World amusement park and encountering various other Disney characters: in this case, including Peter Pan, Captain Hook and Tinkerbell. Peter Pan breaks off from fighting Hook to help Goofy out on his quest.
It's a reprint of the story Fantasy Land from a 1955 US Dell comic: Donald Duck in Disneyland #1.

Re: Treasure: Wee Willie Winkie visits Fleetway
Hi Delighted to hear from another "Donald & Mickey" magazine fan.
Although i own some "D&M" i have far more of its successor "Mickey Mouse".
Unfortunately most of its issues are buried somewhere in my "garage".
And for UK comics i was completely dependent on my late Liverpool penpal who bought me these mags faithfully.
I am familiar with a few guest appearances of Peter Pan but can not remember ever seeing this "Fantasyland" story.
Of course i know the "Goofy and also Pluto" magazine did exist but i own not a single issue
At the moment there are a couple of issues of "Goofy ..." available but not number 19 of 1974.
As regards UK mags i am dependent on EBay and the "30th century comics" store.
Though i have a near complete run of Disney "Gold Key Comics" Dell was before my time.
And "Donald Duck in Disneyland" costs a whopping 50+ dollars nowadays.
Meanwhile i just did locate a scan of "DDiD" as well of the first page of the "Fantasyland" story.
A great many thanks for the information.
You do not by any chance know in which issues this "Fantasyland"story in its entirety was featured?
Thank you & best, J.

A U.S. seller is selling issue 19 on eBay at the moment, but that will mean high postage costs. It'll probably turn up from a UK seller at some point.jehanbosch wrote: At the moment there are a couple of issues of "Goofy ..." available but not number 19 of 1974.

Goofy issue 19 has the final instalment, titled as 'Part Three'. I also have the previous issue, where the instalment is also titled 'Part Three'! So I expect it's probably issues 16-19, but it's definitely in issues 17-19. However, I think Peter Pan and co. only appear in issue 19, the final part.jehanbosch wrote: You do not by any chance know in which issues this "Fantasyland"story in its entirety was featured?

The original Fantasy Land strip is also reprinted in the 1971 US title Walt Disney Comics Digest #32, which may prove cheaper than the 1955 title. That's the source revealed in the code printed in one of the Goofy panels each week ( W-WD DIG 32).

Re: Treasure: Wee Willie Winkie visits Fleetway
Again many thanks!
I have a full run of Walt Disney Comics Digests so i will pick up #32 from my storage facility (not my garage).
And i located an Italian reprint for sale in dreadful condition, "Pippo nel Paese di Fantasia",for very little money.
But i have not decided yet...
I used to buy all American Disney comics during the Gold Key period.
Nowadays most Disney comics are not that good and the American postage rates are frightfully steep.
Thanks & best, J.

Hi I owe you folks some scans.
Like the cover of Walt Disney Comics Digest # 32
And i read the cross over story "Fantasyland" and it was delightful.
But i think i had seen it before.
Hilarious was some of the black humour.
Like Peter Pan's comment on the witch swimming in the moat:
"Heh. But think of all the new swimming records she'll set."
Best, J.

Glad you liked it, Johan.
Peter Pan looks quite different in the Goofy printing, with bright yellow hair and leggings, and a red top. Does the Digest version have the same unusual colour scheme for him?
Fun Fact: I think that Peter Pan movie adaptation serial in Donald and Mickey was reprinted about four years later in the Mickey Mouse weekly.
Oh, and I think there was an Adventures of Peter Pan strip in the early '70s UK weekly Disneyland.

Re: Treasure: Wee Willie Winkie visits Fleetway
Hi Raven
The Digest version has the usual colour schemes for Peter Pan: dark green leggings and cap, light green top and that characteristic orange hair.
That "Goofy..."version must be special as i can not remember ever seeing a Disney Peter Pan with bright yellow hair
(There do exist a few non-Disney cartoons in which Peter is blond; i have several.)
Yes, i am aware the "D&M" version of the Peter Pan movie was reprinted in "Mickey Mouse" weekly 166-174.
I suspect i even own these particular issues but they are stored in my pseudo-garage, no doubt in the very last of my 100+ boxes.
My late Liverpool fan was so very kind to mail me these.
Re. "Disneyland" weekly. Again you are right.
I have a large chunk of that oversized UK magazine. The drawings are lovely and bright but the stories are bit juvenile.
As i recall the Peter Pan feature is in about half the issues i own.
Furthermore i possess the entire run of the Dutch edition of "Disneyland" but it lasted only about 2 or 3 years over here.
The covers of "Disneyland" are really pieces of art; i will try to reproduce some scans next time.
Meanwhile i hope to post a scan from the UK "Mickey Mouse"weekly, # 166.
Thanks once more & best, Johan

Re: Treasure: Wee Willie Winkie visits Fleetway
Seems like the colourist for Goofy ignored the official guidelines and went their own way!
It did have some attractive art.
Yes, it was aimed at readers a bit younger than Donald and Mickey's readership - up to about six years old, or so, I suppose.jehanbosch wrote: Re. "Disneyland" weekly. Again you are right.

Hi Thank you very much for the scan.
I took the liberty to pin it on my Peter Pan Pinterest board.
Sure hope you do not mind.
https://nl.pinterest.com/jehanbosch/peter-pan/
As fate would have it i located another scan with a fair haired Peter Pan from Disney.
It is a bubble gum card from Scandinavia.
And your talk about the UK "Goofy and also Pluto" magazine made me curious.
So i bought the least expensive issues of "Goofy ..." i could find.
Issues 12-15 arrived today. It has no Peter Pan but i did not expect that..
"Goofy ..." looks like its sister-mag "Donald and Mickey" but its colours are indeed off-beat...
I hope to go into "Disneyland" and Phil's magnificent poster later.
Best, J.

A bundle of issues of Sparky from 1966 is online, but I will miss out on bidding on this, as I have no money after coming back from holidays.
I only want No. 77 from the set.

Jehan, is this the Mickey - Peter Pan comic you were after?
