That's another good book if it's the one I'm thinking of. Saucy Postcards?

Got it for £3 from a book clearance shop (The Works)... Then went back and got another as an Xmas present for someone :)

Shoot! #1, #2 and #3 (1969) with the free gifts still in #2 and #3. I used to read this avidly in the mid '70s as my love of all things football joined my obsession with comics.

Not at all. Including postage it was £39 for the three comics and the gifts that came with 2 and 3. I was happy with that as I would have happily paid over £20 just for the #1 that I was after.

Thanks. I used to read Shoot! but I never thought of buying any. To be fair, I was only really buying it for Tartan Talk (IIRC). Might have to indulge my interest a little though.

I hadn't thought of them until I saw them. I've been football mad since a lad and Shoot! used to be standard reading for all my mates up into our teens.

i used to buy shoot as a kid and always considered it a magazine not a comic.it was my way of saying i read something other than comics as all the lads at school grew out of comics at some point and bought shoot and match.i also bought smash hits mag regularly and thinks like crash even though i never had that elusive 48k spectrum id always dreamed of.,

yes THB, thats the same book--the seeds of VIZ are in the old Bamforth postcards!

Great book, and it was a Christmas present to myself last year.

The Viz book [25 years] arrived yesterday and it's almost like new---I zipped through it to see it's fine then put it away for Christmas Day,

Good to hear - loads of Simon Thorpe's best bits are in that book, a true treasure trove of smut

Was at the RSPCA carboot this morning and soon as I walked through the gate it started raining and stallholders were covering their tables, however I noticed one stall holder sheltering some collectables including comics at the back of his car.I got these three from him for Just £4.

KNOCKOUT COMIC 1954
MICKEY MOUSE COMIC 1948
DOGFIGHT DIXON R.F.C thriller picture library 1961

He had other comics that I wasn't really bothered about buying ,including Radio fun which I already have examples of ,and TV comic which did not belong to my childhood era.
He had two Lone Star comics that I liked for which his initial asking price was £5 each but I decided to not to try negotiating a price on these and so left them there.

This week, by post, 2 separate lots of ebay comics. One lot was a small pile of Dell titles - 4 Movie Classics, some tv show adaptations and a couple of private eye issues. A bit foosty smelling but they should be fresher after a few days in fresh air.
The other lot was a selection of comic libraries, incl. some WDL reprints of Dell titles. What had never twigged is that prior to the closer to normal American comic size WDL reprints - movie, tv classics - the line was produced in pocket library format, and in Picture Story Pocket Western, late in the run, there is an ad. for WDL Dell comics in a new format and in full colour. Oddly, despite this move to the larger size and 4 colour, the price goes down to 10d from 1/-
Well, I think it's interesting and there is a connection with Australian comics as in Australia, there were reprints of Dell westerns in the pocket library format. These were described on the cover as, "Television Picture Stories" and were still being published by Jubilee Publications, NSW, as late as 1968, years after the British pocket versions had gone to be replaced by the new, better format. Aus. titles cost 15 cents.

Funnily enough I bought a copy of Len Miller's British edition of Marvel Tales yesterday, and was surprised to discover that this series was printed in the digest format too.

A good copy of Superman #102, the Australian reprint, in this case reprinting Action Comics #242 and the first appearance of Brainiac.
