Back at the City Basement Bookshop in Melbourne, and picked up the 1953 Radio Fun annual. I am hoping to return there again before the weekend to pick up another book or two.

Today got-----
DC THE WARLORD( 1983) --------£1
Marvel PSI FORCE( 1986) ---------£1
DFC comics U.K. MONKEY NUTS graphic novel from THE WORKS----£1 (they also have GOOD DOG BAD DOG and VERN AND LETTUCE)

In the charity shop they had Alan Clark's Best of British comic art.I have his book on Childrens Annuals
and he seems to be less mentioned than Denis Gifford. I'm Keeping a lot of these comic reference books I see in mind and hope to find them cheaper at carboots.
Meanwhile all the Marvel and DC 99p comics in the Oxfam shop had gone except Marvel Iron Fist that didn't interest me.

Late in the day a short time back I was casually reading a four page comic short story from Alan Moore's tomorrow stories and it was confusing and didn't make much sense.
I decided to read it again and pay more attention but got the same result.
Then I noticed some yearly dates going down the side of the margin.
I then read the top row on each of the four pages.
The second row down on each of the four pages.
The third row down on each of the four pages .
and finally the bottom row of each of the four pages, BINGO! the story made sense I felt good as though I had just completed a crossword puzzle :)

Just how cheap do these reference books have to get, abacus, before the coins in your pocket start jiggling about in excitement?

Glad you kept your question simple Phoenix and not using words in your usual style that make me reach for the dictionary. Now that space is at a premium I am not in a rush to buy more books but when stall holders quote the common £1 tag I am usually interested.

As you have a dictionary for words and an abacus for numbers, you are actually better off than me because I have neither. I do have Spanish, Portuguese, French and Latin dictionaries but if I need to check a spelling or a meaning in English I have to use my son Andrew's Collins dictionary or his New Oxford, which he leaves here as there is no space for them in his London flat, 'flat' being his landlord's extremely optimistic description of the small room he rents out to him at a huge profit to himself. If I need help with numbers I have to remember my tables and/or count with my fingers. Actually I try to avoid numbers as I only got a bare pass at 'O' level (45%). Admittedly I did do a whole lot better with most other subjects despite my father's fears that my entire future would be ruined by reading what he called 'penny dreadfuls'. He was referring to the love of my life, no not my ex-wife, my collections of The Wizard, The Hotspur, The Rover and Adventure. :) :D

Use a dictionary when I get tired of being a 'writer of wrongs' :)

Nor am I, abacus, but that doesn't seem to stop the flow of them through my letter box. I can walk past Waterstones and the like easily enough but it's those pesky secondhand bookshops that draw me in like a moth to a flame. There is almost always some book or other that I look through and think that it may just come in handy one of these days. They never have a £1 tag on them though. However, the main culprit is eBay. Oh, and 30th Century Comics in Putney runs it close. I mean yesterday for example I was idly looking through their list of issues of Mandy, which I am currently writing about, and spotted nine issues that were on my Wants List so I rang up to buy them. Two had already been sold unfortunately but I bought the other seven even though I didn't really need them because I had already listed their content during one of my visits to the British Library. It isn't that I don't trust my notes, but it may be my inability to resist the temptation to move ever closer to having the complete run, or more likely that I just prefer leafing through the actual comics. Either way I don't think there is a cure.

Ii bought my 1st ever girls comics.96 issues of misty plus i won issue 3 from another seller so only 5 more needed i think so i will try too find those and actually read the complete run.they look very nice and if ever there was a merger made in heaven in the 80s it would have been scream and misty if they were both around the same time despite the fact scream was aimed at boys and misty aimed at girls.i still intend to buy the Misty GN from Rebellion as well to show my support to the uk market as i bought monster despite having all the eagle issues.

As the Commando auction on Ebay went way above what I was willing to pay and I missed out on the Warlord run from 1984 to 1986, I spotted this little pile of annuals and could not resist.

Admittedly, I already have the Victor annual but the others just looked so tempting, I had a punt and they will be heading my way soon enough.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Have you got an image of the Tomahawk #1 please Steve, I've not seen it before. Bargain at £1!

Yes I noticed the Grand Comics Database and the Comic Price Guide for Great Britain don't have images for it. I'll put it on the gallery here ASAP.
