Is that the one with the early Ron Embleton art? As far as I can tell that material was reused at least three times in various obscure annuals and albums!colcool007 wrote:...and The undated Crackerjack Wester annual which appears to have been credited as being published in 1959.

Got some U.K comics from today's carboots
MICKEY MOUSE No 178 March(1979)
MICKEY MOUSE No200 August(1979)
MICKEY MOUSE No208 October (1979)
MICKEY MOUSE No207 October (1979)
MICKEY MOUSE No219 December (1979)
The WIZARD No15 May 23 (1970)
£1.50 the lot.
There were a lot of Rupert annuals on one stall and I didn't realise before that some of the earlier annuals were soft cover. I made an enquiry about the cost of one to see if it might be in my price range but I was told it was £35. I was also told it was from 1938, but I could have misheard 1948 which would account for the war years paper restrictions, anyway he had other ones of the soft back type Rupert annuals but not at prices I could entertain.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
They're all softback 1942 through 1949.
The only particularly difficult one to get in nice condition is 1942, but even then it does show up fairly regularly. Before the internet it was nigh on impossible to get a really nice full Rupert run, but as with a lot of titles they're really not as rare as it seemed. Even the 1936 complete with dustjacket is obtainable if you have the money.
Remember as well that pretty much every year has now been reprinted in a facsimile edition.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
In Phil Shrimpton's auction this evening I won 24 issues of Judy from 1981. The lot contains 11 issues that I haven't got. I'll be dropping the rest off at a local charity shop by next weekend.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
i received 14 issues of Nipper today.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
I suspect that that's because their owners are moving on to that Nutwood in the sky. I can certainly remember dealers such as Norman Shaw in London and David Moore in Crosby charging a king's ransom for that 1942 issue in the seventies and eighties. Just for the record I have three actual annuals from the mid-to-late forties, and three reprints, one of which is the 1942 one. I don't plan on getting any more. It was just a phase!koollectablz wrote:The only particularly difficult one to get in nice condition is 1942, but even then it does show up fairly regularly.
I've just checked the Rupert annuals in Al's gallery, and I've discovered that my annuals are for 1945, 1946, and 1947.
P.S. I've just spotted the 1943 annual on one of my crowded shelves.

If you want the thirteen issues that will be duplicates when they arrive, Bri, just PM me your address and I'll get them off to you. No charge obviously.big bad bri wrote:i was going to bid on the judy's too as i don't own any of this title

I can find Roger Hall, Derek Eyles (thanks to Paw for deciphering that signature) and someone that signs as Jordan but I can't find anything that is even remotely close to Ron Embleton's work in it.philcom55 wrote:Is that the one with the early Ron Embleton art? I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

This is the one I was thinking of, along with one of Ron's title illustrations.colcool007 wrote:...I can find Roger Hall, Derek Eyles (thanks to Paw for deciphering that signature) and someone that signs as Jordan but I can't find anything that is even remotely close to Ron Embleton's work in it.

If you had not said that Phil, I would have put that into my "Don't know" pile. But looking at it, this is probably one of the few black and white Ron Embleton that I have ever seen.philcom55 wrote:This is the one I was thinking of, along with one of Ron's title illustrations.colcool007 wrote:...I can find Roger Hall, Derek Eyles (thanks to Paw for deciphering that signature) and someone that signs as Jordan but I can't find anything that is even remotely close to Ron Embleton's work in it.
I had seen Mr Embleton's work for Mr Heffner so I know his colour work very well!

As a matter of interest Ron drew several b&w strips for DC Thomson during the 1950s.colcool007 wrote:If you had not said that Phil, I would have put that into my "Don't know" pile. But looking at it, this is probably one of the few black and white Ron Embleton that I have ever seen.
