I'll have this weeks issue by the end of the week, then hopefully I'll get both issues on time after that.
What comics did you buy today?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
The mail has been sabotaged in part by the June long weekend.
I'll have this weeks issue by the end of the week, then hopefully I'll get both issues on time after that.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
"Astro Man" in the Mighty Heroes annual 1984 does look a little like "Hero Man" on that cover. Maybe they did use the story but just changed the name. There's also a superhero on the cover of the book who looks a bit like the X-men's Cyclops crossed with a red Batman but with green skin! But he doesn't appear inside.
Anyway today I got issues 18, 19 and 20 of Spaceship Away. It doesn't seem to have been a good time for the comic as both Dan Bear and Space Girls are bought to premature ends. Still a reprinted Garth story starts! And the letters pages aren't full of whinging!
I also got the 1897-8 volume of Chums back from t'binders. They've salvaged what they could have the original covers and stuck them on the new covers, plus done various fixes inside, it looks great and can actually be read now!

i got ghost rider 0.1 & this weeks beano & dandy, the latest viz & the beano summer special.inside they say there copy of the first summer special 1964 is knackered.it is a state i' m surprised they haven't got more than 1 decent copy in the office.they should scour ebay and look for a decent copy.and seeing as im gonna leave ebaay alone for a few months i thought id buy 10 of the marvel figurine collection which i have been neglecting cos of comics on ebay.i feel im way to behind on the dc collection to catch up with that and i wont even bother trying to get the blackest night subset as these collections are going on way too long with no end in sight

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Nigel A's Spleenal arrived in the post today (I love the way he draws eyes...). I've only skimmed through it so far and I just hope that no young and impressionable Dandy readers buy it expecting to see The Bogies.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Today, I won another Cheeky Summer Special (I don't know if it's either the 1980 or 1982 Special, but I'll find that out when it arrives in the next couple of weeks
As well as that, I have now completed my 1977 run of Cheekies with the win of a complete copy of the 3/12/77 issue.

30 old Dell titles from my pal who's selling of some of his stuff to fund some pre-code horror purchases. Lucky me.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
That Dandy actually cost £1.10 if you don't normally buy the Post! And it wasn't worth getting if you normally buy the Dandy, as it was reprints.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
I've only being picking The Dandy up occasionally, so I figured it was worth £1.10 for a "compilation" issue (plus The Sunday Post's Broons and Oor Wullie strips).
Re: What comics did you buy today?
,,,Bet they weren't quite as old as this 1938 Dell title I picked up for a couple of quid from my local boot sale this morning!paw broon wrote:30 old Dell titles from my pal who's selling of some of his stuff to fund some pre-code horror purchases. Lucky me.

It's amazing how different the Lone Ranger looked in those days compared to the later TV version - and who on earth was 'Betty'???

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Holy Macaroni!!!! That's a nice one. It's a Large Feature Comic, from Dell, as you say, and is, I believe, a text strip, or an illustrated story - as opposed to a balloon strip. Any chance of a look, or description of the indicia, please? And, please let me know if I'm even close, or whether I'm gibbering - my usual state.
The ones I've been buying are much later being from mid '50's up to early'60's and some of the stories and art, but not always the two together, are excellent.
Also, I received this week the Miss Fury Sunday Pages hardback, a lovely package of Tarpe Mills colour newspaper strips. Great stuff if a bit too heavy to read in bed.
Wish stuff like that would turn up here.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I received my copy of the only 1977 issue of Cheeky Weekly that I didn't have (which was the 3/12/77 issue) in the mail this morning
I have to find five more issues of Cheeky (3 from 1978, 1 from 1979 and 1 from 1980) and I'll have a more-or-less complete collection.

Received a small batch of Beano from 1953 in the mail today, including the very first episodes Roger the Dodger by Ken Reid. Here is Roger's dodge in the 4th week of the run (No. 564, May 9th, 1953)

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I've just won 17 issues of Star Picture Library off ebay for 99p. My first copies, look forward to receiving them (which goes without saying really so forget I wrote that). Its like people saying "Did you go anywhere nice for your holidays?" "No we went somewhere nice last year so this year we thought we'd go somewhere grotty." (which is Latin for "pants")
