The latest 4 Commandos
Classics Illustrated. Nicholas Nickleby which was actually first published in the US in a different comic called "Stories by Famous Authors Illustrated", but which has now been transferred to the updated "British" Classics Illustrated.
the Smash annual 1972. It's the first time I've read The Swots and the Blots properly, that one story made me laugh more than the Bash St Kids ever did!

I recently won another birthday week issue, this time, it is The Beano (plus seven other Beanos from 1965)

I'm looking forward to seeing the mischief Dennis, Minnie and Roger get up to when the issues arrive in the mail in a few weeks.

Comic Football issue 1
It's certainly not a new Roy of the Rovers or Lion, it's more like a football-themed version of the modern Dandy (in fact one page of short newspaper-like strips could be plonked down in the Dandy and wouldn't look out of place). I was expecting it to be filled with jokes about the personalities in football, which would go right over my head, but actually it's fairly accessible. There's also a more "serious" serial strip about some boys who are in a school team.

Deepee. Today I got about 100 Wizards from the 70's, 100 Tigers from the 70's - 80's and about 200 Roy of the Rovers from the 80's... for £30!
And also the 1971 Tiger Annual and the Hospital Nurse Library and Valentine Library reprint books.

115 issues of Cheeky Weekly won, 2 to get, with the win this morning of the 25/2/78, 1/4/78 and 15/4/78 issues.

On top of that, a couple more replacement issues from 1978 were added.

Not a comic, but I recently got Graham Kibble-White's "The Ultimate Book Of British Comics". Humourous and detailed but more of a reference book than one you read straight through. :)

Yesterday I got 3 issues of The Boys Friend from 1910. I got the second half of the year in a bound volume a while ago and am slowly plugging away at the first half!

From the D. C. Thomson Shop, I bought this years Beano annual.

I have the Dandy annual coming from Amazon, and that should arrive early next week.

Update 19/8/11: I received the annual in the mail this morning, and have done a preview for the book at http://toonworks.brucelaing.com/comicbl ... dandy2012/

Picked up the Whizzer and Chips 1981 annual from a charity shop for 50p...a cracking annual (W&C has always been my fave comic), but the cover is so irritating....the snakes and ladder board is wrongly numbered..it just doesn't work lol :D

Just found this in a local shop:

(not my picture, picture is from http://www.dandare.info/pages/albums.htm)

It's a paperback novel, but with a couple of pictures on each page. From looking at these pictures I would assume they're taken from the original Eagle.

When I was in Edinburgh for the Fringe the other week I got the Beryl the Peril book 1969 at the Grassmarket for £6.

This is the earliest Beryl book I've ever had, and the only one to be published in David Law's lifetime. Also the one one to be entirely drawn by him, stories, covers, and extraneous matter. At least, it all looks like his. There might be the odd page of ghostmanship.

I don't really find most UK kids humour titles that funny anymore as an adult by David Law's Beryl the Peril is an exception. Nearly every story in this book is an absolute gem. I love David Law and I especially love his Beryl the Peril.
