UK comics made me smile and feel good as a kid, rarely laugh out loud though - However VIZ def has had me in stitches (ok laugh) a few times , had me in shock a couple of times ditto the Far Side (so clever, weird and juvenile at the same time) as well and Don Martin who always good for a chuckle - I used to laugh "knowingly" at Calvin and Hobbes a lot (an amazing newspaper strip)

Good to see that a few people here read Viz. (And for those of you who don't - why not? It's not ALL about sweary bits you know, and we are all adults after all.)

Some of Dudley Watkins' Desperate Dan strips made me laugh out loud as a kid, - as did some of the 1960s Odhams pages by Leo Baxendale and Ken Reid, and some of the material in Oink! in the 1980s.

Recently, some of the strips in old Radio Fun Annuals & comics I've bought have raised a chuckle. Some witty play on words stuff and good sequential slapstick in those strips. Had I been born 10 or 20 years earlier I think Radio Fun would have been a must buy for me.

Anyway, back to the drawing board....

I have most VIZ comics from the 80's they crack me up with laughter, one strip had me and mate rolling up so much he borrowed it to show his work mate,(I did get it back after a month).I Can't remember what it was called, it did appeal to our sick sense of humour, my Viz comics are right at the bottom of one of my comic piles.
I don't think it would be suitable to post it on here.

I don't think children's humour comics ever made me laugh, even though I devoured them as a child. Oink! might have done. Viz has certainly made me laugh a lot over the years, and continues to do so.

I've rarely laughed out loud, but I've sometimes sniggered at some strips of Blinky, Incredible Sulk and Derek the sheep. If I laughed at a 2006-2008 blinky strip, it would be purely laughing at nick brennan's godawful artwork.

I remember one page of the Beano where Rodger the Dodger had tried to get out of doing his homework, and failed, and not done it. He was chewing the desk in the next day's lesson, which made me and my brother laugh whenever we saw it.

In fact i'm pretty sure we got the most laughs out of that strip over the years.

I recall a Colonel Blink strip I once saw in a Classics-style book where he mixed up an accordion and a typewriter! After planning to write a letter of complaint (with a cigar!) about the faulty accordion (typewriter!) he'd bought, he said 'Time I got a typewriter!' So he ended up buying an accordion! That strip made me laugh and laugh.

Ah Colonel Blink! I'd forgotten that. Yes, that strip definitely made me laugh out loud on several occasions as an adult. (I didn't read The Beezer much as a kid.)

Colonel Blink - on many an occasion! Tom Bannister's artwork really made it work - the Colonel's deadpan face and Auntie's incredulity at the scrapes he was getting into; not to mention Rover the dog's "Oh no, here we go again"-type expressions.

Hot-Shot Hamish and later Mighty Mouse - again Julio Schiaffino's artwork really brought the already humorous scripts to life. A great variety of characters and farcical situations - always made me laugh.

Puss 'n' Boots - again a perfect pairing of extremely humorous script and John Geering's fine artwork really worked for me. I think the fact that they spoke in a 'slang' style also added to the humour ..

Incredible Sulk - a largely overlooked gem from Jackpot - Jim Petrie's artwork on the 'exaggerated sulks' just reminded me so much of my younger brother!

There's probably SO many more but these ones instantly come to mind....

COLONEL BLINK was my old man's favourite strip of all time, and I definately remember him laughing out loud at it on more than one occassion.....oddly enough, he didn't like 'TINY' also by TOM BANNISTER. DESET ISLAND DICK of course was one of the most reliable strips in TOPPER.

Didn't know Minnie the Minx's longest serving artist worked for Fleetway as well. Jim's only really well known for Minnie the Minx and The Sparky People.

ISPY, you do of course mean Desert Island Dick, not Deset.

Colonel Blink was a fantastic strip. It was often hilarious because of the Col's absolute inability to literally 'see' the real world. From first frame to last he would be off on an exasperating tangent of his own, myopic, making.

Just read a Pop Dick and Harry they are also very funny..
Just bought some 1966 Beezers..10 of them..for £7.45

As a kid I found the Bumpkin Billionaires very funny..
Also the Bash Street kids by David Sutherland..

Tiny's downfall was that while John Sherwood's work (largely alternating with Tom) was good, it simply wasn't as good as Tom's.

talking of TOM BANNISTER, there's a real oddity of a DENNIS page he done towards the end of this month's issue of CLASSICS......most unusual.
