When Baby-Face Finlayson briefly re-appeared in the Beano in the autumn of 2004 for a six week run, at the end of the last strip there was a similar caption, albeit with Baby-Face having been arrested by Sheriff ''Marsh'' Mallow for sheep rustling and the caption mentioning that he would be spending some time in jail.

What makes me laugh about the first strip you showed is that the Beano editor bears little resemblence to Euan Kerr! It's not surprising that the Beano editor appeared in the last regular Baby-Face strip though, as I think he was one of Euan's favourite characters, along with Calamity James.

Here's the final episode of Scaredy Cat, from the last issue of Krazy. I haven't read my Krazy collection properly for some years, but I think by the end of the run, Scaredy had inherited an ancient pile called, I believe, Doompussy Hall. The evil butler was always trying to bump off Scaredy and his mouse pal Squeeky so that he could get his hands on Doompussy Hall.

Yes - Doompussy Hall! He spends the night in the haunted house, and gets the deeds as his reward...I used to love Krazy Komic and especially Scaredy Cat. And I have to agree - that is some top notch Terry Bave art!

Both endings are very strong especially the trees throwing themselves at the sawmill..

I love Whoopee!! and still do so was gutted at the time it merged with Whizzzer and chips...
still Whizzer and chips was a good home for so many great characters of Whoopee..

I have never seen Family Trees before so that was a nice surprise. Lovely Robert Nixon art there as well, which never hurts. :D

It's worth mentioning that some of DC's titles are currently being 'wound up' in preparation for next month's high-profile relaunch. In my opinion two of the most satisfying endings to appear so far have been last week's Secret Six no.36, where the dependable Gail Simone allowed her 'heroes' to bow out in a suitably dramatic blaze of glory, and this week's Batgirl no.24, where Stephanie Brown swings off into the purple sunset with real style!
