I like the idea about reverting back to the old covers, the new ones just aren't as good. This week's Dandy front cover was good though and dare I say it, it was nice to see Harry Hill back on the front cover drawn fantastically by Nigel Parkinson.

However I really don't like your idea of a Retro Pullout. Sorry.
I do agree however that the competition page is a waste of time and could easily be replaced with a fun new comic strip. Maybe one day, eh?

Also, I didn't mind Jak and Todd, they had some good storylines. To be honest, what ruined it for me was that they spoke like they were American using words like 'dorky', 'jerks' and 'dweebs', no normal English person would use those words as they just sound dorkish ;)

The Jak and Todd that appeared in the Dandy Annual 2012 was an example of a very good Jak and Todd story, the art style was better, more cartoony. Before it was WAY too manga-like! I've always liked all 3 incarnations of Jak, David Sutherland's was always very good though in my opinion and the appearances of Dennis and Gnasher sometimes made the strip even better as it alone took on being a great strip and contained comic rivalry! Brilliant!

If I was going to suggest something for making the Dandy better, all I can say is don't have as many filler pages, every week the Dandy has loads of adverts, competition pages, the darn joke page, puzzle pages etc. There's just not enough comic strips.

What I think is another survey is in order. A big survey which can allow the readers to say exactly how they think the Dandy should be, choose up to 8 stories they like (as well as 4 mini strips), include every single Dandy story that has been in a story run. Have questions about celebrity content, bringing back old characters, if you were Dandy editor for the day how'd you change things. Things that can help the comic become better.

Maybe another suggestion that could happen is a 32 page mini-mag in the centre pages of the Dandy (A5), not a pullout, have it containing two 14 page stories (not reprints) by Dandy artists. And perhaps a puzzle page or two. I don't know. Have it in full colour and make sure different artists draw characters each time. Maybe even have one new story and one old story drawn by a new artist? It could be an option on the comic shelves in 'Recommended' where they have loads of these Dandy 'Fun Sizes' available and if you want you can also pick up the mini-mag which you can by separately for £1.00 or for 50p when you buy the Dandy. Then when you pay for your Dandy and 'Fun Size' you then pay £2.00 and get a half price discount on the mini-mag.

What do you think?

No offense caused by dissing the Retro Pullout, cos that was just a few random pages i picked out. However, i did think the Jak and Todd one was a good idea, maybe cos they stick to mind more (1997-2010), but all in all, a good idea and thanks for answering,

That needn't be a problem. The Harry Hill strip could be just as funny without knitted character and the TV theme- if not more so.

^ This :D

And I'm not just being nostalgic- Jamie's Dan covers have been great and would work even better as a strip. If I was being nostalgic, I'd insist Korky was retconned back to his old loveable, huggable self and was once again sneaking around The Dandy cover looking for No Fishing signs to ignore...

Have you not seen this week's issue? Who's that on the cover? Oh yeah, it's Harry Hill!

That's why i thought of Harry Hill on the cover again, and anyway, it's probably not going to be permanent, even though i'd like it to be. Scrap that first idea, by the way.

How would The Dandy be able to afford 28 extra pages of art per week?

Yeah, and the half size thing was done in 2005's low budget "best of" issue (44 pages, of which 40 were actually 80 pages of reprint printed sideways). They didn't do it again, so it was probably judged a failure.

I also can't see a mega sized Christmas issue being done again like last year's, due to cost. That issue was all new material.

that would be a shame because that was the first time in years that it felt like a chrimbo special i wish all the comics did em like that when we was kids.

Nothing wrong with a bit of topic drift, we were still talking about the Dandy.

Personally I think Are You Ready for the question Noel is a bit redundant because we already have Knock Knock by Garry Davies, and Are You Ready for the question Noel is just a clone of that with a celeb plonked in. If it replaced Knock Knock, I would be perfectly fine with the strip, but it didn't.
