Sure it wasn't in some weird section of the shop? Next to World War Two partworks or something?

No wasn't there, I looked around the magazine section for ages looking, it was a small Smiths that's probably why.

Not in my local one either. Will try another branch when I have time.

Hello everybody, long time lurker fist time poster. Managed to pick this up in my local (medium sized) WHSmiths, funnily enough it was with the rest of the comics!, I was gonna list all the strips but then I thought people would rather go in blind. Lovely little trip down memory lane, reminded me of the Summer Specials you used to get.

Couldn't find it in my local WH Smith - tried the kids' comics and the "sci fi" shelves where they stock 2000AD and Marvel/DC reprints, but to no avail. Will have another look tomorrow. I did notice that there were still copies of the Roy of the Rovers special in the football section.
Ah, never mind - I did pick up 2000AD, Judge Dredd Megazine, Classics from the Comics and Private Eye. Who says British comics are dead?!
(OK, so it's a stretch calling Private Eye a "comic", but it does have cartoons and strips in it, so, erm, there.)

It's OK,it's what it says on the cover a souvenir of Battle Weekly, it's still good to see something like this in the shops again though and it's a good read, No 'Charley's War', Probably because most of it is in the Titan books.

Managed to get a copy today in another branch which had loads. Most were upside down and back to front because the shelf-filler didn't care but I put them all the right way up.
It's... alright. I still think using continued stories that the reader won't see the conclusion of is a bad idea, especially when it makes it look like Hitler gets the upper hand (in the Day of the Eagle strip). Not keen on the cover designs, - too much like the worst issues of new Eagle for my liking, but perhaps kids who grew up in the 80s/90s might like it.
It'll be interesting to see how it sells, but if not all Smiths are stocking it and those that do, display it back to front, then it's not a good start.

Have to say I haven't been that impressed with either the Roy of the Rover or Battle editions. For the price (considering it's all reprint) it's not great value for money (IMHO) and I would have thought that some better stories could have been picked from the 80s onward archives (arts been mostly very nice though). They both certainly gets a pass mark from me, but so far a missed opportunity to shine - although the 80s / 90s wasn't my era for reading UK comics so maybe I'm missing out. I certainly wouldn't be overly impressed picking this up as new reader never having heard of these strips before. I think Buster will be better with it's complete stories and funnies.

I hope they do well as it might encourage them to do new comics (or more reprint) but I'm not sure who these specials are aimed at. There aren't enough hard core enthusiasts of those titles to make them viable, and the continued strips (with no "next week" to ever appear) will frustrate younger readers. I can only assume they're aimed at the general public 30-somethings who might remember the comics of their youth.... assuming those same 30-somethings, who have long abandoned comics, actually bother to look at the comic section these days to notice them!
