Yeah, just noticed that myself. The actual strips are still up (for example, Retro Active 13 is at http://www.dandy.com/issues/issue%2013/ ... ctive.html), it's just their indexes that are gone. Very strange.

This is not looking good. I'm expecting a merge.
What I want to know is if there is a merge, what will happen to Retro Active? I'm really enjoying that series! :(

Apparently all will be revealed tomorrow, and it will be good news (rather than our worries!)

Good news in our terms or UK Comics terms?

Without knowing more than there is a press release embargoed until tomorrow, it is not "great news for all fans" in its 1980s meaning. I'm very curious.

Yeah, I posted a message on the Facebook page about all but issues zero and 1 being down, and they just now said that "all will be revealed very soon".

I won't be surprised if it's some kind of revamp. Two of the original six feature strips (Numskulls and Keyhole Kate) have ended already, and one of the others (Brassneck) isn't ever-present. The rest of the line-up has been inconsistent.

But surely any revamp wouldn't require the existing issues to be taken down? Heck, they only actually removed the covers and index pages, the strips are still accessible if you know the urls.

EDIT: Just noticed a couple of alterations to the menu. It now says Comics instead of Issues, and Join Now rather than Membership.

Well, it does look like good news for iPhone, iPad and iPod users at least.. If you go to the App Store you can download the all-new Dandy app..

However, it starts again from issue 1....

Now, I have already bought issues 1-13 and, although the app didnt charge me any of my credits, the new issue has slightly different strips to the original online one..

First thoughts? In general it is a LOT better: quicker to load, smoother animation etc... And you can create your own avatar and earn 'awards' for your own room (though I'm not sure what I do with them other than cherish them!).

I really like the app and it looks like you can get a years worth of issues for £29.99 (less than 60p an issue!) .. I will sign up for that once I've got my 13 issues replicated that I've already purchased!!!

However, small problems: on my iPhone the app has crashed in the middle of Brassneck, Desperate Dan and Bananaman :( ... It just needs reloading so not the end of the world but would be good if that could be addressed.

Didn't quite find the strip that my avatar appeared in yet, and the Dan strip, despite the claims, didnt appear to have Dan actually speaking ? I did get sound on Blinky but nothing on Dan.

Oveerall though I really like it!

Yes, it appears to be a reboot, but I didn't get reading all the ones I paid for! *grumble*

me neither :(

is that fair really? Making you pay for something then taking it away from you...

At LEAST, when i 'bought' the new issue 1 on the app i wasn't charged any Dandy credits for it .. so I guess in 13 weeks time I'll be back to where i was last week (and can catch up with the ones I hadnt read!)

PS. when does the press release embargo end AndyB ?

Does that now mean that they will still have the digital version for PC users?

No it's not! They owe everybody a refund of all spent credits (it seems they're doing that by giving you the corresponding issue, as I only had to log in to access issue 1).

None of the strips from issues 2 to 13 are down yet by the way, the links are overwritten by the new issues (so issues zero and 1 have been replaced and their old links no longer work). That issue 13 Retro Active link I posted still works. The new issue zero, for some reason, uses episode 2 of Retro Active, rather than the shortened episode 1 from the original issue zero, and Keyhole Kate is originally from issue 3. They have, however, been tweaked at the end to add the last/replay/next menu. Surely they could've added that menu to issues 1-9 and put all 13 existing issues on the new app without rebooting the comic?

I've been in correspondence - as well as new technology requiring your speakers, all strips recycled from the print Dandy are being replaced with brand new material. As I understand it, if you paid for any of the original digital Dandy issues, you will get the respective new digital Dandy issue free, but that will all be in an email to subscibers this afternoon.

I was hoping for a better announcement perhaps the return of the print version as a monthly with a mixture of new strips & classic reprints not the modern ones they previously did,or was even hoping for a merger with Beano to at least see some new strips of classic characters.
