Got a very nice hardback book from Poundland called Cops 'n' Robbers featuring classic stories from sparky ,beezer, Dandy etc.

There were a number of these "Comic Capers" books, these are all the ones i know about

Very pleasantly surprised to go to the market today and find 48 issues of Oink! (including the preview issue and issue #1), two Oink! holiday specials, and three issues of Nipper (including #1). Even more pleasantly surprised to get the lot for £10.

Bargain, well done

Going through Southport's charity shops yesterday, I got:

-Action Annual 1979 (Hookjaw on the cover!)
-The Beezer Book 1996
-The Beezer Book 1990
-The Dandy Book 1989 (already got this, but I took the scissors to my one during the mid-1990s to make some Dandy pogs)

£1 each, can't complain.

I chanced upon the Buster book 1975 today. Bought for £3, and it's my first paperback Buster annual. I wonder why IPC chose to publish Buster books with a soft cover and didn't change to hardback until relatively late? All other comics (including other IPC titles) seemed to be producing hard cover annuals at the time.

Maybe they had limited printing capacity in that format? It's noticeable that the Lion Annual switched to soft covers for a couple of years round about the same time Buster went to hardback.

Though I preferred hardback annuals I must admit that the early Buster Annuals had a special charm for me during the 1960s in that they were different (and cheaper!) than all the rest.

Yesterday I went to the MCM Expo and got:
One Cell issue 1 from Lomsofd Manga (which I kept misreading as "Lowestoft Manga"). The art style is more like a parody of manga, and it's written "backwards" despite not having originally been in Japanese.
Japanofail 5 from Ushio (a collection of 4-panel gag strips)
Beholder of the Eye 2 from Ushio (werewolf-type monsters in fantasy action!)
Formera book 1 and 2 from Alterna Comics (a boy appears in a fantasy world and has to save somebody who has been kidnapped. My comment upon first seeing it was "It looks like One Pice, but I've never read that")
Strangers & Friends book 2 from Sweatdrop Studios
Marci by Fay Hancocks.

Oh and also some foreign ones like Bakuman book 11, Ludwig II book 2 (late 19th century German history, with added porn), Feverish (a story of an expert burglar who steals stuff for fun, with added porn) and some Final Fantasy 7 fan comic from Japan (without added porn, despite cominc from a porn comic stall).
Oh and a HUGE book with reprinted art from Hokusai Manga, the first thing to be called "Manga". It was published in the early 19th century and was filled with 'random sketches' (which is what the characters translate more literally to), for instance a page of Noh masks folowed by a page of insects. It also had some illustrations of proverbs and catchphrases. The books reprints the pages as they originally appeared and then has lots of blow-ups of individual parts.

Had a good day at the ephemera fair in Bloomsbury on Sunday. The dealer who promised he would have some 50s Lions came up trumps with four large boxes of assorted comics from which I bought those listed below. I spent nearly £400 but left behind a load of stuff including lots of Harold Hare's Owns, 60s Judys, those 50s Lions, Tiger & Hurricanes, Jag number 1, School Friends, Junes, Buntys, Tiny Tots, Ranger (including the first issue and lots more. I have his e-mail address if anyone wants to pm me for it. All about £4 each apart from the first issues and he had a Joe 90 for about a tenner. He gives a ten percent discount for bulk purchases. Not sure if he sells by mail order but he said he will next be at the ephemera fair in November.

I remember when i used to regularly visit the warehouse of book palace & always spent £200-£400 a time with discount,its a real shame they got rid of all their back issues as i know by now i would have had all the spaarkys ,beezer ,topper,beano & dandy i could want,i'm so glad i at least got to complete a lot of the fleetway/ipc funnies.
