what about champ another short lived DC Thomson comic which I only know about because its mentioned in The History of The Beano.

If Tin Can is trying to link Champ with Classics From The Comics, as would seem to be the case, surely the thread is still relevant. At worst, he could be advised to start a new thread within the Classics From The Comics forum, as there may well be some of our members who would like to talk to him about it. Like the DFC forum, Classics From The Comics is merely dormant until somebody has something to say.

But the subject of the thread was originally "Why isn't Hoot used in Classics?" (it eventually was) with Tommy asking the same thing about Champ. Since Classics no longer exists, there's no longer any point asking such a question. I'd have no complaints if someone posted something relating to a back issue, but speculating on the future is futile when it's already over.

Seeing as how classics no longer exists It would seem that i asked why Champ wasnt used in classics. I know very little about the comic I should probably have not bothered posting here and made a thread about Champ instead. Well after googling i can see why it wasnt included in classics I think its because it was an adventure paper and from the few classics i actually bought I cant recall them using strips from adventure comics although they did have the occassional adventure story from the Beano.

Actually the champ did have some funny comic strips but they were mostly reprints from other DC Thomson comics according to this blog http://champweareunited.blogspot.com/

The post before Tin Can's was within days of a year ago. Judging by his comment above, he didn't know that Classics From The Comics had turned up its toes. Not everyone is as well versed as you, Digi, in matters comic. In my opinion, he has asked a perfectly reasonable question,which is not time definite anyway. It seems to me that he was entitled to a simple answer as to whether any strip from Champ ever appeared in Classics From The Comics.

Classics always used adventure strips, but until the last couple of years they were always from Beezer, Topper, Beano or Dandy. In the final two years of publication, they used more of them, and started using stories from Victor, Hotspur, and other boys titles, and even a couple of text stories appeared. Had the magazine continued, it is possible that material from Champ may have been used.

I think I must have tried pretty much every new DC Thomson and IPC title from the early 1980s for a good ten years or so, and I remember rather liking Hoot (though it definitely felt like a derivative Nutty/Dandy hybrid).

I recall the incessant Raleigh Vectar(?) competitions in the first few issues - very StreetHawk!

Also IIRC there was a mini-strip section bringing together 3 panel versions of various DCT classics and others, must as there had been a similar section in Spike (and perhaps also Champ?)

Anyway, I am very much enjoying exploring the new look Comics UK - kudos all!
