What comics did you buy today?

From a pal this week, I bought 9 issues of the T&P British, Justice Traps The Guilty and 2 issues of the British, Fantastic Tales, all "shullnies"
He also gave me a present of a small pile of Look & Learn and #109 and # 223 of The Hornet.
Digitally, I bought a Diabolik Grande and #1 of the original Diabolik series from Amazon. The Grande is in colour and is a great read. # 1 was a test to see if the Kindle app worked on my android tablet, and the comic only cost 83p - I have the physical reprint of this which was issued a few years ago, about the same time as the reprint of Kriminal #1. Happy to report that, apart from being a bit slow loading, the app seems o.k.

'Shullnies'...?

Incidentally I think T&P published two separate runs of Justice Traps the Guilty (presumably 'the Guilty' got away the first time!).

I was writing that post when I remembered that when I was young, all the boys who read comics used the local slang and said "shullnies", meaning a comic costing one shilling (1/-). I also now remember that we called American comics, "meccies". But then, I am from Airdrie.
JTTG seems to have had 3 separate series. First was by United Anglo-American, 2nd. was ABC, and 3rd. was Top Sellers and later T&P, according to the guide. But I think that's not quite accurate, just can't figure out why. Although I seem to have some numbers which don't agree with the guide listings. Also, the guide lists all 3 series as being Prize Publications reprints and some of the ABC issues have T-Man reprints which was a Quality strip. Enlightenment gratefully received.

Got the first issue of Hyena today - never heard of it, but it features both Hunt Emerson AND Jim Woodring, so'm looking forward to reading it!

Bought this week's Beano along with The Simpsons Futurama Summer Bumper Pack (£4.99 for three comics). It contained Bart & Co #1, Simpsons Comics #219, and Futurama Comics #67. Inside back cover of that Futurama comic is the news every comic reader dreads - the comic folded with that issue, at the end of last year. It was cancelled because despite reducing the frequency to only three issues a year, it caught up with the US originals, which are quarterly. The comic did not admit this, it just said Farewell and suggested buying the two Simpsons titles.

Well, that revamp can't have done any good. Seven issues and eaten by Eagle. "Big News for all readers inside", says the 30 March 1985 issue.

As I recall that final revamp was done solely to make it more compatible to merge into Eagle.

That's what I was thinking - it does make Tiger look very similar to Eagle.

Still, Tiger didn't have a bad run at just over 30 years - better than any incarnation of the Eagle at any rate!

Last week on holiday I got a RADIO FUN ANNUAL 1946 the chap wanted £15 for it ,as I only collect for fun I was only willing to pay £10
He suggested £12.50 I said thanks but I' d leave it and as I was leaving the shop he said ok you can have it for £10.which I did.
