Tricky one, depends on condition , where you buy them from and what you are prepared to pay.whizzer chips I would pay £2.95 and for topper I would not pay more than £15 but then I have difficulty parting
with money anyway.I know they can sell for two three or four times
the prices quoted.

purchased a couple of mighty world of marvels from 1977, a bundle of 5 Battle comics from 1977, a Super Spiderman comic from 1977 and, this surprised me as well, Walt Disney's Disney Time Summer Special 1977. The Year 1977 was the year that I really embraced comics - had dipped my toe in late 1975 with the Beano, entertained Action and Bullet in 1976, but 1977 was the year when I thought: "Yeah, I really do love comics." Someday, I will have every comic that was published in the year 1977... then bring on '78... '79... and so on until I reckon about 1983. That is the most intense period of my reading as a teenager. Thereafter, girls and the need to get a job blighted my journey. Things were never the same. Even now, in collecting, I still yearn for that thrill when I ran down to W H Smiths and bought my weekly coup of comics with my paper round money every Saturday morning. I used to earn £2.30 a week, bought around eight titles that ranged from 10p to 13p, could then visit the market stall that sold back issues of titles that I didn't buy religiously - 6 comics for 10p (what a bargain) and then walk home with a bar of chocolate and can of pop just in time for Tiswas. Excuse me, while exhale a deep sigh.

Found a download (!) so I checked, and no adventure strips in that one.

That means Buster annual 1987 was the last to have an adventure strip. I have it, and I can tell you it's the Leopardman.

Apart from 'Thunderbolt The Avenger strip' it seems like they really dug into their vast vaults, as a 'Partridge Patch' reprint from 'Jet' 29th May 1971 Issue.4 appears, as well as The Kids Of Stalag 41 from 'Jet'.

I notice that the Kids from Stalag 41 refers to Schtink as "the very nasty Colonel von Schtink", not the blurb that says the kids give Schtink a terrible time. Did that blurb come later in the strip, perhaps when it joined Buster?

Arrived, rather than bought, today, thirteen issues of Tracy, of which I needed eight.

I went to the ephemera fair on Sunday as I have been trying to get out more despite my illness. I picked up 19 issues of Ally Sloper's Half Holiday from 1885/86 for £50. Also picked up three copies of The Rover, numbers 244, 246 and 249 (1926/7) for £3 each - complete but with some foxing. Plus Boys' Magazine number 256 from 1927, Forget-Me-Not from 1913 and two issues of The New Home Circle from 1906. A good day out and a nice cold beer when I got home.

Both the origin and this final adventure were reprinted in my very own Starscape Comic in the mid-2000s.

Quite a lot of UK comics at the Manchester mart today. One nice seller was about to move abroad, so was selling his comics for £1 each, including Jack and Jills from 1960, early 70s Buster, Valiants from 1965-72, 1960s Beezers, 1960s Dandys and more. I couldn't resist picking up some of these. And unlike many of the dealers who tend to price their wares about three times too high, and keep bringing them back, ever unsold, event after event, this table seemed to empty very quickly!

Fifteen issues of Bunty (1990/1991) arrived this morning, more from 1990 to come next week.

not quite a comic that I purchased, but a free gift: stickers from Battle issue 1 - £22 buy it now bid. Years from now, tnat will be a bargain. I haven't gained it for a quick buck. I will keep it for ever. I am a collector and very rarely sell. It really amazes me that if this offer was available on "Phils autions" the price would excel much more than that was currently on offer Phil has a very good record, but there is better if you look!

hi, phoenix, from recent posts, I gather you're chasing "Tracey" and "Bunty" story comics. I wish you luck on that mission. I would like to know your objective...I know mine - I want to own every comic from 70's and 80's with original free gift and then present them fully on a website that illustrates British History Comics from a certain point

Rather than boil my cabbages twice, Geoff, can I refer you to my first post on Sunday February 9th 2014 on page 3 of the Beginnings thread in the General Comics Discussion forum. This was before you joined comics UK, so there is no real reason why you should, or might, have seen it already. That post only refers to my first objective, though. My main aim is to write a book on the history of the ten girls' titles I am collecting, the main focus being on the serial stories, and despite the fact that I haven't yet acquired all the issues, it can already be described as a work in progress. The quest continues. In fairness, I don't need absolutely all of them because in many cases I have issues either side of a missing issue, and I can therefore see immediately whether a serial finishes or a new one starts in the missing issue. I'm not doing too badly, though. I need 380 issues of Judy (out of 1635), 282 of Diana (out of 720), 204 of Bunty (out of 2249), 142 of Mandy (out of 1269), 79 of Debbie (out of 518), 78 of Tracy (out of 277), 60 of M&J (out of 315), 3 of Emma (out of 81), 1 of Nikki (out of 237), and 0 of Spellbound (out of 69) thanks to the kindness of Marionette, who went to the trouble of scanning every page of issue 65 and sending them all to me in digital form to read on my computer screen.

A quick update on the situation regarding the publication of the book This Was The Wizard, which I have written with Ray Moore (Kashgar), the 54-page Introduction to which was thoroughly checked by our principal proof-reader, Phil Rushton. Everything has been ready for several weeks, including written permission from Thomsons to use their copyright material, and an arrangement with a printing firm in Stockport. The reason it hasn't already been printed is because I can't seem to convert my pages into a format that the printers can use. The printers have made several suggestions, and have been generally very helpful, but despite all the help I've had here from a computer-literate friend, who has certainly gone the extra mile or more over the last six weeks or so, it looks as though the latest plan that I will be working on tomorrow and Monday, a kind of technological cut-and-paste, is the last-chance saloon. It's very frustrating because I have used the same desktop publishing package that I used for my first book in 2005, although that was an earlier version, I converted those pages to PDF files, sent them to Thomsons, and they had no problem printing the book. It looks as though current printing technology has left my program behind. The worst-case scenario will be that I will have to buy a desktop publishing program that is compatible with the printing firm's technology, and then write the book out again, but even the thought of that is giving me the heebie-jeebies. This whole project should already be in the past. I need to move on to the next one.

hi, phoenix, now you really have my interest piqued. I wish you well on your agenda and I, for one, would definitely support it. I haven't the time nor the money to chase girl story papers for such an end product. I am too occupied with boy story papers. Given time and money, I would love to do boys, girls, humour, and even nursery comics throughout the seventies and early eighties. Keep me posted on your work, and I will be among the first in line to purchase your works. Chin-chin.

by the way, phoenix, what is your next project? I don't expect you to answer cos, right now, I'm aware that someone has been dabbling with a project for Marvel Uk for the last eight years or so and still has not delivered. Serves him right if someone steals his thunder. Keep it to yourself until you're ready to let rip

I received a near full set of "Warlord" comics for year 1975 from Phil's Auctions for around £27. I did bid on a near full set for 1976 but lost out because I wasn't indoors at time, which went for under a tenner But, still, quite happy. The comics are in good shape - the only bug bear is that they have the cursed "newsagent name" written on top of every copy. I knew this beforehand but, thankfully, the signature has been written in pencil. I will be very busy with my rubber in the foreseeable future
