The 2010 annual's great - Mike Pearse all the way through!abacus wrote:Just back off holiday in Wales. What did you buy? I hear that last remaining reader ask. Well bought a 2010 Bash Street Kids annual which I normally woudn't bother with but the Charity Shop only wanted 20p for it, therefore I had to pick it up, also spent £2 on 8 comics from a secondhand bookshop.

From Blackwells, the pocket size reprint of La Débauche by Jacques Tardi and Daniel Pennac. This originally appeared as a standard French hardback G.N. in 2000 and Folio have reprinted it in a lovely, dinky, wee version. Gorgeous and, typically, lots of social comment. Tardi is so good.

And a couple of Wizard books too couldn't resist those Chick Gordon covers
Re: What comics did you buy today?
just bought Battle issue one for £20 on buy it now offer. I probably could have bought it more cheaply, given more patience... but I do have the original free gift (purchased a couple of weeks ago) that's waiting impatiently for a reunion. I do get very sentimental about these things... sigh...
Re: What comics did you buy today?
by the way, the same chap from whom I bout Battle issue one is also selling its free gift, which is double the price that I bought mine for... swings and roundabouts spring to mind.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
savage sword of conan monthly issue 1 with free colour poster still intact in centre with staples. Cost £20 plus postage - a day before, I purchased issue 2 for a couple of quid plus postage
those intact posters are very pesky
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Picked up Stingray annual 1965 for a pound at carboot. The highest I've paid for anything is £10,happy to plod along adding to my collection picking up things here and there below dealer price.I know if I spent a lot I could quickly have a fantastic collection but it doesn't really interest me.Also although I collect annuals ,some uk annuals tied in with tv series such as the Professionals and The Sweeney I don't like the artwork so I don't bother with, I prefer comic strips similar in style to the old American comicbooks.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
A full set of Smash + the following batch of Valiant. The 1st 10+ issues have been water soaked but after that the quality is excellent, some lovely stuff in those. I got outbid on them originally but they were collect only and the winning bidder wouldn't so I got a 2nd chance offer. It cost me £65 to get a man in a van to get them as I was about 4 hours away but the lot only cost me £15! A very peculiar deal, the seller just stuck them in 2 bin bags and left them in the porch!

A charity shop had a 'pay what you want' bin filled with old comics. Got a number of Marvel UK including a run of Spidey/Hulk/Team-Ups, a few Marvel Super-Heroes (pre-Captain Britain), a MWoM I was missing (there were more, as well as some Spidey UK), plus some Brain Damage, a few 1960s Look and Learn (with Ranger, so Trigan Empire) and the first Beezer and Topper. Wife got a few Beanos from 1995-2002.
Decided to pay £3 for them. Some water damaged, others not. Very pleased with the haul. Felt like buying a lot more but didn't want to be greedy.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
You were greedy though. If you had bought those comics from a carboot for that price, starscape, nobody could complain, but from a charity shop, come on! That first Beezer and Topper must be worth £3 on its own. If I'd been in your shoes I'd still be feeling guilty now. Did your wife pay extra for her Beanos, or was it just a family job lot?starscape wrote:A charity shop had a 'pay what you want' bin filled with old comics.
