He might find the updated one in a different charity shop. For £2.98.

I have no problem affording either.When you are in a shop you have a couple of minutes to make a decision and also take other things into account.For instance I have done a lot of spending recently and in the next week or so I need to buy printing cartridges.When spending you need to work out your priorities and spending requirements now and in the future.With hindsight I should have bought the £2.99p book.I always carry enough cash in case of that must have buy .My slogan is SPEND AND SAVE a balance between the two.You will never be rich by just spending and hoarding money is not good either

Sounds sensible. Decent print cartridges don't come cheap! In some cases it's cheaper to buy a new printer!

Originally bought my HP printer from WHSMITH for that reason.
I asked the shop assistant about the included ink cartridges and she told me they weren't full ones which seemed odd because it would only have taken a thimble full of fluid to fill them
With my old HP PRINTER prior to the one I now have you were able to buy filler kits(not HP) for as little as £2 which included bottles of ink and a syringe for filling up cartridges yourself.This was my heyday of printing.Eventually this printer wore out and in the later cartridges it looks like HP had taken steps to close this loophole.HP have advertised a payment method for keeping a constant supply of ink and I have yet to check on this.
Ideally when it comes to spending and saving after spending you should be in surplus each month

Yes, they were only about half full, just to get you started. Nowadays official cartridges for the HP deskjet that I use are relatively expensive, but I've discovered that the cheapest place to buy them on the High Street is Rymans.

This site must have been named after Nevil Shute's 1956 novel Beyond The Black Stump, which was set in Australia.

A charity shop selling Essential Fantastic Four #7 and a Six Million Dollar Man annual for £10 each. Also a 1970s girls annual (I forget the name) for the same price. No doubt with the 'this is on eBay at £12' inside. Yeah, but not sellling for that price...

I got that sort of comment about a book that I was looking to buy at my local carboot sale. £10 is a lot to spend on the word of a seller that says it's going for £20 online.

Awww... for the first time in three years I can't make it to the Comic Mart at the Royal National Hotel tomorrow, so there will be a lot of comics there that I won't buy. If any dealers are reading this, please hold on to the good stuff until the next mart in October

Went to Manchester on Saturday (on way to Comic Fair) and nipped into Paramount Books near Shudehill Bus Station.

I was tempted by a couple of annuals and then I saw an annual I really really wanted in a rack on a high shelf that could not be reached:

So I asked the shop owner - who said that it had already been sold and thus not for sale and that it and the other annuals in the rack were only up there for display only!

He then had nearve to say wouldn't you like another of the annuals instead (like he was tryong to appease a disappointed kid with concillation). I said no thanks - I'd already gone off the 2 I was considering - and left.

I thought one of the golden rules for a shopkeeper would be to not display anything that's already been sold - and put them in a cupbaord where no one can see. (or at least put a sold sign or wrap annuals up so no on sees).

Should be a law against this!

Talk about getting people's hopes up then kicking them down!

Oh, Paramount! I remember it as the Paramount Book Exchange - it was my first place where I could find back issues. I did then find more shops that were actually comic shops with more structure and filing to them but I will always remember the Paramount and that first flash of excitement.

I didn't buy anything from the Compal auction!

Including buyers commission, Beano #1 went for around £17k!

I was interested in Hornet #1 and Detective Weekly #1 but they went for £370 and £490 + 14% commission which was too rich for me. A bound volume of Eagle 1-52 went for £2150 and a set of Hurricane comics also went for £320.

This is a question I don't like because it makes me look back at things I probably should have bought.I bought 5 american war comics a while back ,the seller had a dozen or so and I should have bought them all.I bought a Cheyenne comic from a seller and left a Wagon Train comic.Last weeks carboot had a comic cuts comic for £3
maybe I should have bought that.There is a collectables seller in town with Rainbow and Chicks Own comics at £7 each that I would like to own but I don't want to pay that much because I remember as a child after the glorious colour cover pages there is not much left of interest in them

On Saturday in Deptford flea market there was a box full of Mandy, Judy, Bunty and Nikki comics all from the mid 80s but they were just a bit too modern for me. They had a 1000th issue but the insides were missing - I would have bought that one otherwise. It might have been Mandy 1000.
