Re: Buster Special 2009
Still no sign of a Buster Special in the Stoke city centre branch of Smiths - but they have managed to remove a large pile of unsold Mistys since Wednesday!

Re: Buster Special 2009
Yay - there are now 6 copies on the track-o-meter!
Thanks Lew for that update, just out of interest, where is your neck of the woods?
I'm off to Lakeside tomorrow to complete my Christmas shopping and I'm sincerely hoping I can get a copy there to post to Oz - it's holding up a Christmas card which now probably won't arrive until New Year!

No sign of Buster today in Nottingham. There was a large pile of Misty though, and I bought one to put it out of its misery. (I was rather surpised to find it quite good!)

Still none in Belfast. No surprise there

Am I the only one who thinks the gas man in the Faceache strip looks like the Bash Street Teacher?

Re: Buster Special 2009
Wow it sounds so good...
Its also great that Leo Baxendale and Ken Reid will be in it a lot..
it sounds much better than Buster website review..
now which town shall I go today to try and find it...

Lew Stringer blog..Curiously, a couple of Valiant strips are in the mix too: Baxendale's Bluebottle and Basher, and Nadal's Blarney Bluffer because they were reprinted in Buster during this period.
The special features a selection of adventure strips as well, which is fair and balanced considering Buster contained a variety of content for many years. Excellent material, featuring Joe Colquhoun's Sammy Brewster's Secret Ski-Board Squad, Mike Western's Leopard from Lime Street, Solano Lopez' Pete's Pocket Army, and John Stokes' Marney the Fox.

It's a great mixture, showcasing what a strong comic Buster was in this period. Numerous funnies include pages from Leo Baxendale (Clever Dick, Snooper), Ken Reid (Faceache, Martha's Monster Make-Up), Reg Parlett (Buster, Rent-A-Ghost, Kid Gloves), Mike Lacey (Val's Vanishing Cream, X-Ray Specs) and more.

Re: Buster Special 2009
Congratulations Peter. 2000 posts is an impressive achievement, which only yourself and Lew have reached.
I'm unlikely to get the Buster special, because I'm not really familiar with the characters. The only issue of Buster I've got is from 1998, which contains mostly reprints of the Whizzer & Chips gang, with a few others like Tom Thug (again reprint), though essentially everything except the Buster strip is reprints. Buster ended before I got into comics unfortunately.

Yes, congratulations from me too, Peter. I hope, however, that the fact that you end your post by taking your coat and leaving doesn't mean that you are not planning on returning. We would not wish to be deprived of your interesting input. Here's to 3000.Peter Gray wrote:![]()

Have a read of http://www.bustercomic.co.uk then. And Peter, congrats on post 2000! What's the betting I'll be next, eh?Jonny Whizz wrote:Congratulations Peter. 2000 posts is an impressive achievement, which only yourself and Lew have reached.

I noticed that several strips were drawn by Tom Paterson (must be very early in his career) and one of them (Crowjak) was even signed. Brian Walker is in there too, with the first episode of Plane Jane. How long did that strip last?
