I rang the Subscription department this morning because they'd debited the fee for the next three months from my bank account - they confirmed that 175 is definitely the last issue, and that refunds will be done once the current issue has cleared (presumably when the next one would otherwise have gone out)

Can't get it anywhere this month, the usuall WH Smiths I've been getting it from hasn't stocked it, anyone got an email to contact DC Thomson so I can order it,the contacts on their web site don't seem to be the ones where you can order it from.

Yes, I went into their store in the Plaza building on Oxford Street yesterday but they didn't have a copy. I just assumed they'd sold out. I ended up with a hi-fi magazine instead to read on the train. No cartoons there, although there were some funnies - among them a CD player for 15 grand and a turntable for 12. I suppose it'll have to be back to the busking.

Dammit Google, stop including obsolete links in the searches. I searched for dc thomson back issues, and this was the first result.

When I order a subscription, how do I know which is the first issue I'll receive?

You may specify your first issue when you place your order. This may be up to a month in the past or several months in the future, depending on the publication.

A month in the past? Shame the subscription details for Classics are gone from the site then.

Unfortunately not, steelclaw. It was just a quick trip to see Andrew, down Tuesday lunchtime, home same time on Thursday. My ex-wife Lynne came up from Cornwall so we had a couple of evenings with him, and my old singing partner Joy came down from Essex to see us all before she heads off to Cuba and Colombia for a few months. We went to the Gauguin exhibition at the Tate Modern, had some good scoff, put away quite a few scoops and had a leisurely trundle through all our yesterdays. I could have done with an extra day but they charged me £89 a night for my single room at the Premier Inn in Wimbledon, which was more than twice as much as my return fare from Liverpool!! Common sense prevailed.

I would simply ring DC Thomson Shop on 0800 318846 - easier to discuss exactly what you need over the phone and you get instant answers!

I've got it, Smith's in Cambridge has it, so at least some branches do.

I have to say it's probably the best issue they ever put out! The adventure story content has been increased and some really obscure half-text, half-picture stories have crept in, plus another completley text story that i had also never heard of. If it had continued it would have been incredible

In other bad news apparently Book & Magazine Collector is ending with the next issue, i only started getting it recently because they have been running a great series of articles about forgotten 1940's comics.

Odd, B&MC is still selling subscriptions.

I saw it on Bear Alley, not thier own website which is rather confusing. It's a great magazine so i kind of don't want to beleive it's true! But we'll see in next issue's editiorial.

That's a shame. I remember buying the first issue about 30 years ago! I must admit I'm not a regular reader though but have bought many issues over the years. (Never kept many though.) It's always been good to know it was out there and as well as some excellent comic articles has featured some very informative items on every variety of book.

I wonder why sales have dropped? Is the serious collector becoming obsolete or are perhaps retailers putting their rates up so smaller publishers can't afford to publish?

Or maybe not. Classics didn't announce it's demise in it's final issue. We had the same amount of notice, one month.

The high rates charged by retailers don't help, but neither does the fact that a lot of magazines rely on subscriptions for the guaranteed sales they need in order to keep operating, and at a time when the whole country is feeling the pinch, people tend not to renew subs as they're low on their list of priorities. That was a big part of what killed Crikey!
