You are clearly the man in the know! Two-pager, eh? Excellent!
'Begins with' implies that it opens with a two-pager, but then moves to a one-page format? Would I be correct in my assumption?
As far as I know the first one is 2 pages then it goes to one page. It was originally going to be two pages for every story but the Dandy didn't agree with two pages sadly.

According to Will it also has a different character ever week (like Little Celebs). :)

Thanks WizzKid.

I read The Bogies last night and I thought it was very funny, and at 18 panels a great value page; 18 panels!
LOve the bit where Gobzilla's huge ball goes through the crowd. Pure class.

Thanks Ginger.
18 is quite a lot to squeeze in. I do tend to try and get more panels than average because my opinion of me is that I'm better at writing than drawing :)

I think the next one is on 5 lines too.

Really? How odd! Down here in the South EVERY newsagents has the Dandy and Beano on sale! I was speaking to one of the people in there (I knew her very well because she worked at my old school) and she said that the Dandy and Beano are very popular in there with them having to put more copies it all the time! They've even sold out once or twice!

And I spoke to the manager of the shop and he said he loved the Dandy and Beano and would never get rid of them in his newsagents! He even pays for two copies each week of both, one for him and one for his son to stop them fighting over who'd read Desperate Dan and Dennis' antics first!

Down here in the South, comics are very popular, nearly all the newsagents I go to have the comics almost sold out! The annuals are having to keep being replaced all the time due to kids wanting to buy them. I was in Waterstones once, one guy had to replace the Beano and Dandy annual spots about 3 times!

When I went to Devon though I was shocked, I really wanted the new Dandy and Beano. Desperately. I went into 11 newsagents overall and 3 supermarkets and there were no Beano and Dandy comics there at all (The Toxic Mag and BeanoMAX were there though.), I asked this one guy if they had any copies of the Beano and Dandy and he said that the Beano and Dandy are so unpopular here we cancelled our order with them. I was shocked! Then again when I asked another man he thought the Dandy and Beano came out on Thursday even though he received them in time for Wednesday. Sigh.

That's the fault of whoever designs the Beano cover. It said Every Thursday for years after it changed to a Wednesday release. Dandy has no such excuse though, since it only switched to Wednesdays last October (it was every Friday prior to 2007).

Misleading contents: Harry Hill's twin wasnt evil. Mr Meecher i didnt get, Red or Black would have been advertised on the cover but it wasnt, thank goodness. Pre-skool prime-minister a spoof of something. Rocky's horror show i had to read twice before understanding. Bananaman seems to be an anti-climax every week now. Are you ready for the question, noel is hilarious! Postman Prat not as good as usual. Wasnt rocky o'flair in Nutty thirty years ago? Or maybe that was a dream.. Desperate Dan was decent...

An excuse for what?

Mike :D

I think Digifiend was referring to the retailer, who mistakenly believed the comics came out on a Thursday. The only problem he mentions that D.C.T. can be blamed for is that the Beano still said that it came out every Thursday until a few years back, when it's been out on Wednesdays for years, although in adverts for the next week's issue from when I started reading the Beano, it did always say the comic was on sale from the Wednesday before the cover date.

Correct. That's exactly what I meant. There was no such excuse for getting Dandy's issue date mixed up because it's NEVER been every Thursday - it was every Friday before the war, ended up every Tuesday in the 1950s, and over the next 40 years (mostly in the 90s) gradually changed days, to Monday, Saturday, then Friday, shifting to Wednesdays at some point during the Xtreme era.

I'm sure this has been covered here several times before.

No one has gotten mixed up. No one is at fault. The Beano has been coming out on Wednesday in most (but not all) areas for several decades. The "Every Thursday" notice was because a few, usually obscure, areas of the country didn't receive their shipment until Thursday.

Same reason why all those IPC comics said "Every Monday" when in fact they came out on Saturdays in most areas (or even Friday if the newsagent made the effort to fetch them himself).

The official on-sale day for The Beano was Thursday because every retailer should have had them by that day. (Same goes for The Dandy, which was "Every Tuesday" in the 1960s even though it came out on Monday most places.)

As I read this thread, I was sure I recalled you explaining all this on sundry occasions, Lew!

Even Northern Ireland, which every modern private courier protests that they need an extra day to reach with shipments, had the Beano circulated to all areas on Wednesday morning, Whizzer and Chips and Buster on Friday, and the Dandy on Monday throughout the 70s and 80s.

Mr Meecher... the joke was that of ALL the records a DJ could play, Cliff Richard is last resort. Not exactly good for a teacher who likes to think he's cool.

Will the readers have any idea who Cliff Richard is?
