Continuing my Picture Library kick that I am currently on, I bought Battleground issue 200 titled
Brothers In Battle from
Kingdom Comics and after a chat with one of the regulars, I was once more intrigued by the
Giant War Picture Libraries that were put out in the 1960s. And after a brief search online, I found and purchased issue 1 for the very reasonable amount of £11 and that is including P&P.

Not only have I never been to Kingdom Comics, I've also never been to Kirkcaldy! I'll have to put that right soon-ish.

That's a great price for the #1!
I have been looking for them myself and the prices they command vary massively. The set of 76 went at the end of last year for £520 on Ebay, yet a few months earlier, issues 1, 3 and 4 went for only £20. Current prices seem to be between £3 and £7 each but they regularly sell for £15-£20 each.

I thought so too. One seller is currently selling his entire collection on Ebay and his
issue 1 is already at £12.50. And rather than add to the bidding frenzy, I went looking for other sites that sell books and found it for £7.99 set price plus P&P. And considering that I have none of these and that the seller slappywagg already has issues that have reached £16 in the bidding, I thought it a very reasonable price for a first issue.
But I see that a lot of early Commandos are up for sale and they seem to be going for less than I would expect. For example, I have just seen issue 5 go for only £34 when I have seen it reach double that in a poorer condition.

Two different purchases over the last couple of days with 10 of the 14 WORLD ADVENTURE LIBRARY - MAN FROM UNCLE comics from 1967. I'll have to get searching for the other 4.
More interestingly, 43 of the first 46 issues of Chums from 1892! These will be by far my oldest comics but hopefully still fascinating 124 years later. I need to do some research on them when they arrive as I know very little about the series other that they ran in many different formats from Issue #1 that I now have from September 14th 1892 until 1941 when paper shortages finally stopped it.

I'm watching the same #1 issue and it's almost out of the range I'm willing to go to. I'll have to keep my eye out for the Commandos though!

I've attended many concerts, although I would not have gone to a Donny Osmond one if it had been held at the bottom of our street. But whenever I think of concerts, even now I think of the Jerry Lee Lewis one in Preston that I was looking forward to going to, assuming I could worm the ticket and travel costs out of my father, a task usually bookended by hope and ''No''. Ultimately it didn't matter because not only the concert but the entire tour was cancelled. Jerry Lee was given the old heave-ho when the authorities discovered that his wife, who had accompanied him into Britain, was only thirteen. I think she was also his cousin!
