Missed out on the first appearance of Superman (bar ads) in the UK in Triumph comic. A fair copy just sold for £45. My car had it's service, so I wasn't around to bid

I got snipered at the last minute on the 100 plus Wizard lot that was the first two years of Wizard Mark II.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Had a week of losing out on virtually every auction that I've bid in this week. Some of the prices paid have been amazing and that's not been on Ebay! The one I wanted was 700 Valiant, Smash, Pow and Scorchers from the 60s and 70s from an auction in Derby but without seeing the condition of them I couldn't spend the £400 eventually needed on top of the cost of getting them to me. :(

Raining outside, when I started typing this message I thought we could be in for a bad spell. :D

In Oxfam this morning they had LEO BAXENDALE forty years of comics, in truth it's been in the shop for a couple of weeks now.It has a come buy me cover but their asking price of £29.99p is not my type of price. At least I know such a book exists and could possibly turn up at some future carboot sale.

Looking at eBay that's about the going price for it now. The book is nearly 40 years old so it seems fair. However there is one on eBay with a starting price of a tenner if you're interested:

Sometimes, abacus, we simply have to bite the bullet. If you really want this book, buy it. Knowing now that the book exists is no guarantee at all that it will turn up at a future carboot sale somewhere or other. Even if it were to, you almost certainly wouldn't be there because it might be in Pontefract, Penzance or Portsmouth. Personally I think the asking price is very reasonable, and you could argue that you would be paying for it with the money you have saved during the year on your previous charity shop purchases.

I feel the same way Bri...but at least in my case I have the consolation of knowing that I owned it once upon a time. And I had hours of fun from the free 'Balloon Bleeper' - until it burst!

When I did some work for an anniversary issue of Buster I was loaned the first issue from Fleetway for reference for a few days but that's as close as I got to it. I own issue 3 though. Those early tabloid issues are quite nice.

Never say never! I thought the same and finally picked it up a couple of weeks ago but had to buy loads of other comics in the lot that I didn't want. Hoping to sell them to get some cash back. Beezer #1 went for £246 last night and that's one I don't have....

I've still got the issue that had a free cardboard plane. Was that no.2?

Thanks for the comments Lew/Phoenix
I have no argument about the price ,it just doesn't fit with my shoestring buying. The record I have paid for a book in my collection was last year for the new Viz adventure book which was around £12.
The Baxendale book mentioned sits in a glass case in the shop and can only be viewed by request which is also a slight drawback I usually like to spend awhile studying the books.I know you have previewed it on your blog Lew.

One book I will be looking out for is the Titan war book you recently mentioned on your blog.
I think , and you may disagree , when it comes to buying and selling it is the buyer that sets the price not the seller.

Shop staff try to be helpful this time of year and I'm expecting as I buy christmas decorations some young lady to say to me "Don't forget your crackers!" :)

Do you mean Johhny Red? That's a monthly comic, not a book. If it's collected into a book it's not likely to be until next summer at the earliest, after all 8 issues have been published.

Issue 2 is out now:
