Well, if everyone had unlimited funds to just buy whatever will nilly then the fun would some disappear from the hobby IMO.

It's the chase that's the greatest fun!

But yeah, I'm gutted that I missed out on the first Supercar TV Comic which was on eBay a couple days ago....

Missed out on Radio Fun #1 from 1938 as 6 different buyers bid in the last 10 seconds. It went for £108 in the end. There's always next time!

Missed out on Crunch #3 with free gift which was also in Phil Shrimpton's auction but managed to win #1 with it's gift so not all bad.

Oh well done on the crunch! Nice looking copy.

I am downloading the first eight years of SMASH HITS pop magazine, an epic undertaking that will take up a month of my spare time.

I am currently up to number 73 [in chronological order] from late 1981



I bought this regularly in my late teens/ early 20s and in fact I got it for 7 years [1979-86] which makes it the longest-running following I ever had on any publication.

During the 80s, I bought only SMASH HITS and 2000 AD [seperate journals, not a merger!] regularly.

as I didn't buy these copies, this thread seems most apt: , I am downloading every single page for my own use at home, I will not be selling digital copies, although this would be possible------I ain't interested.

Was considering getting The Midget comic on ebay. Only five pounds, but I decided against it and bought something else instead.

I was in Halcyon Books in Greenwich today and they have two boxes of American comics for £1 each. I picked out issues 1 to 4 of Speedball by Steve Ditko but put them back.

Was looking through a box of comics saturday choosing some to buy and noticed 2 Red Dagger comics .I am more familiar with older comics and had not come across these before.These particular comics looked like young teenage reading and I had already picked out a number of comics that I wanted to read so I left them.Another day I would have probably bought them.

Red Dagger are compilations of individual stories from DC Thomson comics. For instance, Smasher from Bullet is collected into one.They can be be quite sought after in some cases. If they were cheap, you might have missed a trick.

I only came across them last year and bought a couple and really enjoyed them. They sell for about a tenner each on Ebay with the usual variances so if you can get them for a fiver or so then they're worth it. Great reads!

They were £2 each , trouble was there were other comics I wanted.Ah well! you can't win them all ,

Looking at the "See what other people are watching" on that link, I'm amazed to see that Wham and Pow had 1973 and 74 annuals. They look to have gone a bit more action by the covers. Is that right? Or are they mostly humour-based?

I hadn't noticed that, it does seem like a completely different genre! I don't know in answer to your question

According to http://kidr77.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/la ... m-pow.html that last Wham! And Pow! annual reprinted stories of Sammy Shrink, Footsie The Clown, Georgie's Germs, Pest Of The West, Baby Whamster, Kicks, The Cloak, and The Two Faces Of Janus. It also reprinted some stories from Eagle including, if my memory serves me, a Jeff Arnold serial printed in full colour on nice white paper. A very nice annual indeed.

The 73 annual, on the other hand, didn't run anything from Wham! or Pow! Maybe the stories were two recent for Fleetway/IPC to reprint (I think they had a rule that they waited five years before reprinting), or maybe they didn't have the film or art to reprint from.
