Peter why don't you do what I do and put your Beanos in food bags, they are the perfect size for the old style Beanos (or any DC Thomson comic) and any pound shop or household goods shop will have them for a quid for a roll of 100. Will keep comics clean and free from handling damage. I used to use the pro bags but they added too much weight to a large bundle of comics and they slid all over the place.

I'll check out Cheeky No1 Peter and let you know what were on the other two pages. (I'm sure Lew is right about the poster in the middle)

Hi Peter, I've had a check and as Lew surmised the colour centre-spread of the first Cheeky is a picture of him on a skateboard. The page preceding it is a features page titled 'What's New' and the page after is the Wednesday page of the Cheeky strip.

A 1931 Union Jack arrived yesterday, No. 1,422 which is interesting in that it features a photograph of Arthur Wontner on the cover - he was playing Sexton Blake in a stage play at that time, and the story inside is actually an adaption of the play. And, as i just read when i looked inside, it's by the author of the excellent story "The Green Jester", which can be read in an 80's anthology called Sexon Blake Wins, so i think it's just been bumped up the 'to read' pile!

I received a December 1967 Buster - near mint an' all!

Having got one, I find I'm not too fond of it in this era; it got much better in the late Sixties/early Seventies period and after. There's quite a bit of generic stuff in there (Thunderbolt the Avenger, 'Cracker' Caine, etc.) that doesn't really stand out. I was looking forward to seeing Leo Baxendale's Cave Kids strip, though this issue's doesn't look like it's drawn by Baxendale. It looks rather more like the style of the artist who draws Tin Teacher (Peter Davidson?). There's a 'The Pirates' double-pager in the centre though (supposedly drawn "bi Sydney"),

Best strips are probably Galaxus and Toys of Doom.

The single panel cartoons on the back page for 'Make Buster Laugh' are rather good. Hard to believe kids originally sent some of them in as they require quite elaborate drawings!

... oh, and from a specialist comic shop today, I also bought Joe the Barbarian #1, scripted by Grant Morrison for Vertigo - art by Sean Murphy. Looks like it might be interesting.

And a manga: Pandora Hearts # 1. I liked the idea of a Japanese Gothic horror take on Alice in Wonderland motifs - which is what it seems to be!

If you do get round to looking for storage boxes for your larger comics, Peter, you could check out an eBay trader called stampbourneltd, who works out of Congleton in Cheshire (100% positive feedback from 7211 satisfied customers). The boxes that would be suitable for you measure 19.5'' x 11.5'' x 13''. He does 25 for £23.99 and 50 for £35.99, with free p&p and next working day delivery. All his packaging seems to be in easily-assembled, self-locking flat packs. His A4 boxes (12.5'' x 4'' x 9.5''), usable for the more standard sized comics, are even more reasonably priced at 100 for £59.99, also with free p&p. And before you ask, I have no connection with this company. You could look him up anyway just out of interest.

Well, I have just bought seven summer specials for a princely sum, considering I was only after three of them. Once I get them and find my camera to USB cable, I will send in the cover picture for the last Warlord Summer Special (1991) as it is an image that is missing from the library.

On that note, any Warlord collectors may want to contact me by PM as I will have Summer Specials doubles to sell.
