Anyhows...I just wanted to say It's a thumbs up from me and my kids for My Freaky Family. Judging from this episode, it's like My Parents Are Aliens meets Harry Allard's The Stupids...which is no bad thing.
It certainly is no bad thing, My Parents Are Aliens was a good show. Just a shame that they rebooted it only to cancel it after that series (due to ITV shutting down it's kids production arm, which also caused the demise of the original Cosgrove Hall company which they owned). It could've run for several more years, they still air repeats now, so it must still be popular.

Loved the fact the the editorial team acknowledged the fact that The Dandy is 74 years old this week, thought that was a nice touch.

Just posted a scan of that Madvertisement on a Power Rangers forum, I wonder what the response will be? :)

Gilly, I agree, nice that they acknowledged that. I hope that means we'll see some proper celebration next year, unlike four years ago.

Yeah a bumper 75th birthday issue would be nice I don't think The Dandy has done one since its 60th.

The only special issues that have happened since then that spring to mind are the 3000th issue and the record breaking 3007th issue which both were also in the 90s (ironically The Beano has since overtaken The Dandy with the record number of issues).

This week (issue 3564) was the first time I picked up a Dandy in quite a while. Here are my main thoughts on the comic:

Jamie Smart's strip seem to dominate the comic with 4 strips, half of which are double pagers some are reprints though, being drawn by him this week (Desperate Dan, Space Raoul, My Own Genie and Pre-Skool Primeminister). Im unsure of whether this is a good thing or not his strips are some of the comic's best but it would be good to give more space to other artists. Jamie Smart is almost like Tom Paterson was for the Beano a few years ago with a considerable percentage of the comics strips being from only one artist.

Also adverts for Bananaman and Desperate Dan stuff was quite jarring with the designs for the characters being pre-redisgn which starkly contrast with the two character's new designs.

Speaking of Tom Paterson and the Beano, I'm not sure how new it is, but I just noticed the Beano advert in the Dandy appears to have been redesigned in his style - complete with massed ranks of Little Squelchy Things!

Since Jamie Smart pretty much remade the Dandy in his own image, maybe Paterson could be up to something similar with the Beano? It'd certainly serve to distinguish the two comics nicely. (It'd also explain where he's been for the last year!)

This week was the first time that new design was used. Think this means Calamity James is making a comeback? Something needs to replace that Year of the Menace filler page.

Just a short anecdote from my time spent this week or does it count as last week's now Dandy on Saturday. It seemed the checkout didnt recognise the comic and had to be entered in manually now im not familiar with how checkout at supermarkets work but does this mean no one is buying the Dandy very much if its not getting recognised.

That would be due to the recent price increase (which meant that the barcode changed), I've had the same problem.
