South East is good though... We have The Dandy still available in Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose, WHSmith as well as loads of newsagents...

I get mine from a small post office/newsagents in Felpham - they always have them on sale and apparently the Dandy is very popular down here with them having to put out new copies all the time!

Just a week ago - in the exact same issue as Bananaman began running in the Beano, in fact, which can't be a coincidence - the Dandy got noticeably more proactive about its distribution problem than it had been. There's now a huge advert for the digital edition, and a slip at the bottom of the inside back cover urging readers to ask their newsagent to stock it if they aren't doing so. Exactly the same advice as I gave everyone here almost a year ago, but hey, better late than never...

That's not the first time they've done that, printing a quarter page strip two weeks running. :(

John Dallas Beryl the Peril makes an appearance..one page..
I still think one page as a retro page would be nice in The Dandy now there are reprints..especially the 75 year this year..

loved seeing Arena of Awsomeness back..also he did a nice puzzle page..

So it'd be the same vintage as five of the Beano's reprints (Bananaman, Roger, Germs, Pup Parade and Number 13 all also date from that era, the mid to late 1980s). Either it's a filler because this issue has extra pages, or along with Cuddles and Dimples, it fills the reprint quota previously filled by Space Raoul and My Own Genie (Raoul's finished, and if Genie is dropped now, they'll have enough supply for another run later). If it doesn't have a Retro Dandy logo attached, it's probably not like the Retro Beano page. Until now, Retro Dandy has always been exclusive to Facebook, as has Beryl since the revamp.

I must strongly protest over this weeks Dandy. 4 pages of Cuddles and Dimples and not a single panel featuring their mum. I think there should be some quota where Mum appears at least once every story... preferably in that low cut top.

Also, as a bit of a gamer, I'm looking forward to Stupid Barrio Bros next week. Surprised there hasn't been more video game parodies in the Dandy since the industry is just as popular as film and TV.

With regards to distribution, Milton Tesco recently revamped itself and is selling the Dandy again, in fact the comic section is 2-3 times bigger than before! (though without Strip Magazine and The Pheonix... for now!). Also there's a Beano-themed display over the top of it and all the comics are seperated well, so the ones without gifts aren't buried. Now when are WH Smith going to follow suit?

A good issue overall - certainly brilliant seeing the old logo back - far better in my opinion, plus the old slogan - you can't beat it! :)

BEST: Desperate Dan
GOOD: Jibber & Steve, Dad's Turn to Cook, Bananaman, My Own Genie, Mr Meecher, the Uncool Teacher, Nuke Noodle, Korky the Cat, Stupid Barrio Bros, Mutinous Mutt, The Arena of Awesome, Count Slugula, Puzzle: Attack of the Kraken, The Bogies, Kid Cops, How to Draw My Own Genie, Noshy Monsters, My Mum's a Brain-Eating Zombie, Star T.Rex, Beryl the Peril, George VS Dragon
OKAY: Celeb School, 99 Genius Homework Excuses, The Arena of Awesome Thumb Wars, Snoop Dawg, Animals Eat the Funniest Things, We Be Trees, Cuddles and Dimples
BAD: Brian Damage, Pepperoni Pig

Felt really weird seeing the Beryl reprint in there... Stood out like a sore thumb.

PAGES OF COMIC STRIPS: 26
NUMBER OF STORIES: 28
NUMBER OF NEW STRIPS: 23
NUMBER OF REPRINTED PAGES: 8
NUMBER OF FILLER: 13
NUMBER OF ADVERTS: 0

Has anyone realised the Next Time page has changed? It's now 'Next Time' - next issue on sale on 22nd January, Bad Grandad begins at the end of this month according to Andy... Could we be seeing the beginning of the fortnightly Dandy? :(

:!: Oh drat, you're right! It's not Christmas, so yeah, looks like it's changed frequency. :(

As for Beryl, seems like a rush job, they didn't bother to redo the speech captions. Neither did The Beano and BeanoMAX with their Bananaman reprints, which I'll mention in the Beano forum.

From what I was told by a bigwig at D C Thomson (been having a lot of delivery issues so have been in contact with them a lot!) this week's Dandy is a double issue 'to coincide with the half-term school holiday'. Apparently this will now be a regular thing with another special at Easter (March 31st) which covers a three-week period, another on June 2nd (covering two weeks) and another on December 15th (three weeks). These issues will cost £2.99 and £3.99. I did point out it might be an idea to make it clearer what the situation is within the comic as just putting a date a fortnight away for the next issue doesn't really explain and leaves the reader thinking that either it's an error or it's gone fortnightly for good again… whether they'll take any notice is another matter altogether! :)

I can understand Christmas But these longer breaks are a great shame... :( especially for artists needing comic work...
