My mate Steve has a full set of Boys' World and has now provided the necessary info. I'll go back to Deptford flea market on Wednesday and see if I can find the third record.

Near full run of the Greyfriars Herald from 1915.

Now I bought these as I think they feature the first app of Hemlock Sholmes by Charles Hamilton (aka Frank Richards etc). If anyone knows for sure?

There's a website all about Greyfriars - type 'friardale greyfriars herald' into Google

I already did that, it doesn’t say for certain that the herald has the first appearance. Suggests that it is but if anyone knows any different...

Yellow Rose Of Texas, Old Chisholm Trail, Home on the Range, Big Rock Candy Mountain, Tom Dooley, Down in the Valley, Bury Me Out on the Lone Prairie, Streets of Laredo, Cowboys Dream and Red River Valley. Both discs are performed by Bill Shepherd his Orchestra and Chorus.

Well that’s definately muddied the water. I wonder if it’s the same ‘pastiche’ character Herlock that Hamilton picked up and used, or indeed if he knew of that one written previously by Leblanc.

Tonight I picked up another 91 Commandos and I also picked up a lot of picture libraries which included examples of Pecos Bill (which Karen has nicked!), Pocket War Library, War, Battle, Lion, Valiant, Combat, Conflict, Air Ace, Bunty, Top Secret, Battleground, Battlecry, Starblazer, Action War and Western Star!

The purchase also included the Aussie and Kiwi Commando compilation and 5 copies of Wizard from 1958 which the seller has managed to hold on to since his childhood days!

I will put the records on eBay but I'll see if I can find no. 1 first.

Went to Covent Garden antique market yesterday and picked up some comics and magazines:

Boy's Friend 263 10/2/1900, 272 25/8/1906, 274 8/9/1906, 275 15/9/1906, 280 20/10/1906, (the last four are "New series" hence numbering anomaly). £1 each. Tatty but complete.
And a Cup Tie Stars of all Nations plastic wallet given free with the Victor in the early sixties. Free. I already have the wallet and postcards somewhere. They've been in my bedroom since the late sixties.

Got the other Whizz Bang comics annual to make the complete set of two. Only 1942 and 43 were printed by Amalgamated Press due to paper shortages. Both have cover art by Roy Wilson. Compalcomics have pictures in their results section, worth looking at if you like Roy Wilsons work.

A Pete Moonie cover hides work by Bob Nixon (Willie Fixit, Beryl the Peril), Mal Judge (Ali's Baba, Square Eyes), John Dallas (Tricky Dicky and possibly a "guess the item" page), Gordon Bell (Neals on Wheels, Pearl, Jimmy Jinx and a page of aeroplane gags), Albert Holroyd (Hungry Horace), George Martin (Send for Kelly), Bob Hill (puzzle pages and places not to go on holiday), Vic Neill (Peter Piper), Evi de Bono (The Video Kid), Keith Reynolds (Figaro), Bob McGrath (Tom and Terry) and possibly Ed McHenry (lots to do page)

Every one of them retired or dead now. Bob and Mal hadn't long to go before they retired, so it's a piece of history.

Well, the comic swap meet was great fun. There was the greatest concentration of British comics on display at any event I have ever seen.

A conservative estimate would be that over 10,000 issues of Commando were there and that's not even including all the Micron Combat Libraries, Battle, War, Air Ace, War At Sea, Club, Pearsons, Sabre Western, Starblazer and so forth. I could go on but I think you get the picture.
