What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

I thought I spotted a bargain in a charity shop this morning.
PIP and SQUEEK annual 1930 £1 but on closer inspection saw a faint naught after the 1 making it £10.
Similarly in another charity shop saw illustrated classics BENJAMIN FRANKLIN 99p and again after a closer look at the price tag could only just make out a four in front making it £4.99p.
Neither item I really wanted enough to pay the asking prices.
One charity shop has had a pile of BOBO BUNNY comics for quite awhile and I think at the last time of asking they were a pound each but I can never get too excited about buying nursery comics and therefore can never make up my mind whether to buy or not.

As a collector I am interested in examples of all comics, as a reader of comics it is a different matter.Nursery comics
Year's ago were interesting and collectable such as TINY TOT'S,CHICK'S OWN, RAINBOW, TIGER TIM and worth buying , moving forwards nursery comics have become more as picture books than comics making them less desirable items but I am not sure whether they should still be collected when available.
Girl's annuals, girl's comics ,pocket size comics , none of these have I tried collecting but when I have seen them and they were cheap I have bought them because that's what collectors do

I disagree, abacus. I genuinely cannot see the point of buying some item just because it is cheap, especially if you are not already putting together a collection of such items. The vast majority of collectors are far more discriminating.

I think collecting is preserving ,if someone is selling something cheap to get rid of it then it is probably better it is saved for someone else in the future than finishing up on the local tip.

Slam-Bang is listed as containing Fawcett reprints, but I don't know if they're Cap Marvel or western reprints, or other stories.

The main character is Diamond Jack, who sounds like a Green Lantern rip-off at first glance, but was actually published first.

Excellent Digifiend. Thank you. Something else for me to have a closer look at. And, as those titles are pd, I know where I can find them.
An update on Diamond Jack: he has a magic gem given to him by an old magician which makes him, "physically strong and mentally beyond all ordinary mortals". He also seems able to catch bullets. Issue #1 has a number of other stories but I particularly fancy the last tale in the American original, Mark Swift and the Time Retarder. I am curious to learn which stories from the 68 page Fawcett were picked for the Miller version.

Yeah I was after that Masterman too, I thought it'd go high, but not quite that high.

I think it's a good buy for someone though, very difficult comic to find.

Great buy but a long way off what I was expecting. The top two bidders took it well beyond the 3rd.....being me! I must admit, I can't remember seeing one sold in recent years so I had no point of reference to go by on how much to bid..

A great set of TV Century 21 comics #1 to #91 along with a couple of summer specials. I made a hefty bid but they ended up going for £1400 with a whacking 20% buyers fee on top making it £1680 + postage. Too rich for me!

In Tesco last night I saw a Doctor Who magazine in a bag and it advertised a free Countdown with TV Action comic inside. I presume it is all Gerry Haylock Doctor Who strips - can anyone confirm the page count and content etc?

We do these blogs for fans of British comics you know. I don't know why some active members here don't follow them.

Perhaps some active members have tried them and don't enjoy them. I seldom read yours, Lew and I only occasionally look at DTT, mainly because Colin always tells me how good it is, but it's a difficult site to navigate. Also, I followed the link to your blog and there was no further info on the page count, (although I could have missed that bit) so, really, little that could not have been garnered from reading the cover in Tesco. DTT goes into a bit more detail.
But again, to go back to the point I keep making about the lack of British comics available on the high st, where I live and in neighouring towns, it is very difficult, if not impossible to find Doctor Who Magazine and Commando, and there are very few outlets selling the American reprint titles. So, even if I find out all this info on your blog, I can't go out and shop for it.
I know you'll now tell me how good British comics are, but there is almost sfa for me, and I find very little in small press at the marts that is anything near decent quality, in my opinion of course.
I await stuff that'll be flung at my napper. Ducking already.
