Or one could mention the irony that the people who complain that The Dandy is now too "pc" are often the same ones who complain about fart jokes, bogies and bare bums in the modern comic.

As interesting as the debate has been over the Dandy being educational or not, I am going to throw in one little point that may or may not be germane. My daughter (7 and a mind of her own) usually only buys the Beano [with her pocket money] as a lot that I got contained a load of 70's Beanos and Dandys. The kids devoured both and destroyed a fair whack of them (The collector in me screamed. The father in me winced. The Jock in me took it in my stride as I got a bucketload of comics for less than tuppence an issue!) Now that has led my 7 year old to want to emulate Daddy so she buys the Beano as it represents the closest that she can enjoy to what Daddy used to get at her age.

Nothing to do with educational content, nothing to do with parents forcing their kids to reinforce their environmental factors. But interesting all the same to watch the next generation wanting to emulate the previous generation. I can honestly say that I did the same as all my reading of Adventure comics did influence my job choice.

I would recommend looking at the female characters in the Dandy as DF suggested. However, I wouldn't go so far to call it sexist, as most boys' comics tended not to feature female characters. The Dandy in its original form, as well as the Beano up to the present day and many comics that fell by the wayside (Beezer, Topper, Buster etc.) were aimed at both boys and girls. The alienation of the Dandy's female readers would make an interesting topic.
