What tv shows past and present could be adapted for comics?

Was there any telly programs comics missed to adapt...?

Today Life on Mars could work as an adventure strip..
Primevel would be fun to open it up to a larger scale...
One good thing about comics it can go further than telly......though telly with CGI can now compete
Loads of daleks wouldn't have been possible in the telly program of the past so comics could expand the whoiniverse....what else can comics do that a telly program can't do.....

Though of another one keep the characters young...

Peter I think the problem with this is every "good" TV series has been done to death from Gerry Anderson to Sgt Bilko - Probably would have to be something obscure or different like Edge Of Darkness , Spaced, Black Books, Tripods (excellent 80s TV SERIES) ,Taken ( if not already done) THreads, Threshold (I liked that although no one else seems to have - maybe that had someting to do with Carlo Gugino staring in it she is stunning woof woof (sad but heartfelt

) Dynamite comics and Dark Horse in USA are doing most of the cult TV shows/.films (Star Wars, Family Guy, Highlander, Battlestar Galacticar etc) very well - I think your suggestions of Primeval ( I really liked that) and Life on MARS would be excellent - Not sure if Charmed was ever done as a comic but that would be fun - maybe the weather forcast!!!!

Actually Cap, 'The Tripods' (by John Burns) was the main strip in Beeb, the BBC's short-lived answer to Look In back in the 1980s - sort of a 'Junior Radio Times' to Look In's role as the 'Junior TV Times'!

I hear there is to be a Torchwood magazine and that will have a comic strip in Jan...which will be worth a look...

So the more of these type of programs Sci-fi...Adventure...
the more comic strips...
the 60's, 70's and 80's showed that

If we are talking what modern TV series would work as picture strips in modern day versions of the likes of Valiant and Lion I don't really think that 'Life on Mars' would work at all, as it was very much a post water-shed adult drama. After all it's central premise, of the modern day copper travelling back to the early 1970's, owed it's appeal to the very fact that a lot of its audience could recognise and resonate with the references from what was, in effect, their own past and this aspect of the show would surely be lost on a ten year old kid. And as to the character of Gene Hunt how could you adapt his persona in the series to the extent that he would still be credible in a kids comic.
Mind you the Bunty did rather well with it's version of Andrea Newman's 'Bouquet of Barbed Wire' thirty years ago!

I think the BBC would have launched it by now if it was going to happen, as the series is only on for ten weeks. Instead, last week's Doctor Who Adventures had an extra 8 page SJA pull-out (no strips). Perhaps they'll do a magazine if there's a second series.

There was a great mini-series on recently from the US called 'The Lost Room' that I think would have adapted very well into a comic strip.

Life On Mars couldnt really be turned into a children's comic strip, however a comic adaption would still be excellent. They could do things it would have been impossible to do in the series without a budget of millions per episode... like a chase with Capris through the town centre and not down obscure backstreets. Or a criminal darting over the roofs of trains at the station, or a big traffic jam somewhere that needs sorting (well would have been great to have seen it on TV, maybe if they had got every classic car club in the country to join in... XD)

Also the concept, but with different characters and less emphasis on the "social" aspect and more on police methods, could be adapted into a traditional comic. In fact in the 60's and 70's i'd wager there was at least one "Cop from the future!" strip with a silver-suited bobby from the far-flung year 2000 using fancy gadgets like instant fingerprint readers and a 'sniffing robot' XD

For some reason we tended to favour dragging those from the past into the future as much as we did the other way round.

i'm back from my holiday of a week in Gloucester...erm Carol and I were unwell for half the holiday.

anyway enjoyed what we could and nice sunshine...and bought some 70's Busters in the comic shop there..

Is the new Robin Hood BBC mag got a comic strip...?..if it wasn't sealed up I could see in the shop..

UPDATE I have a lot to read for a whole week ........I see there is a post on Robin Hood will read that now!

I thought the Goodies' comic strip in Cor!! worked really well - because the series itself was a live action cartoon!

Wasn't there a Sweeny strip in Look-In? If there was, then we can see that post-watershed programmes can be adapted for the younger viewer. And on that subject, wasn't Action a thinly veiled adaptation of stories that were the ones we really wanted to watch/read. I remember my elder brother coming back from watching Jaws at the cinema and I was sick with envy as I was only 8 and I wasn't old enough to go see it!

Except ... there wasn't!

I'm not sure if the Sweeney annuals featured comic strips or text stories.
